I Am Dazzled By Felix Da Housecat

The new Felix Da Housecat album, Devin Dazzle and the Neon Fever, is unbelievably superb. I have been waiting to cop this ever since I first heard a few tracks and (more importantly, of course) saw the joycore-as-fuck cover art, but it more than meets my expectations. What's most astonishing about it is the way it so effortless captures... the emotional tug of glamour, for want of a better term. 'Ready 2 Wear' in particular, there's just this kind of sadness to it that's heart-breaking and beautiful. Other essentials: 'Everyone Is Someone In LA', the sheer sexy untouchable cruelty of 'Short Skirts', 'Let Your Mind Be Your Bed' with that gorgeous ridiculous AXEL F synth, 'She's So Damn Cool' which has vocals from Felix himself, all Prince-like and shit...

I cannot hype this record enough. Who is fucking with Felix for the album of the year crown? Nothing I've heard so far comes close.

I saw this in HMV today, but buying it will have to wait till payday! Felix Da Housecat generally does rock the house however. The mix CD he did for Bugged Out (it was in a set with Justin Robertson I believe) was fucking excellent. His alter-ego of Aphrohead has also produced some top tunes. Also everytime I've seen him live he has managed to tear the roof off, especially when I saw him in Glasgow. I'll definitely be picking this up at the weekend

Who's giving him a run for his money? I haven't heard the whole album yet, but it's going to have to go a long way to top Ivan Smagghe's "Suck my deck" or Damian Lazarus' "Rebelfuturism" for me. But that's slightly cheating cos those are mix cds.

I like "Ready to wear" but I find Felix's stuff of recent years to be altogether a little too smooth - it goes through my head like a musical laxative.

I'm still pimping "Purple Haze" as the funnest thing this year. Cam'ron is a better dresser than Felix, also.
