well showing my age here and poor taste in movies

has anybody ever tried to work with any of clive barkers creations?

from the movies or literature.

imagicka or weaveworld perhaps.

i purchased an intresting box from a charity shop today and was thinking of working with that a small box with metal plates and intricate patterns on each face looks like islamic art not quite sure.

please tell me experiences if anybody has worked with barkers mythology.

I actually see a relationship between the Cenobites and the Archons... like Greek and Roman pantheons almost.

I mean, I didn't ever like those movies when I was growing up. Much too gruesome for my tender eyes. I was a violent optimist and I never DID quite understand WHY someone would WANT or even rationalize a universe where the all-powerful thrives in pain and suffering. And then poeticizes it.

Now I can see them as one side of the Lucifer. Grof 3 manifestations. Pull the shit and bile and blood and most importantly, FEAR, out of the body and into the real world to make a stronger soul. Now I wish there was a Hellraiser movie that actually had a guy walk up to the Cenobites, take a big chomp out of their necks, and give em the finger.

Hi

Now, working with Clive Barker's stuff is something I never thought of but should have. Especially the Imagicka worlds or Midian. I think I now have the perfect excuse to drop everything and re-read Imagicka (and take notes, too!).

Thanks.

ps-I have a replica of the puzzle box from Hellraiser on my desk here at work. It's plastic and I had to put it together myself, but it looks really good.

I always found midian and the whole nightbreed myhtos extremely powerful when i was younger. I think its definitely archetypically potent to work with and in my experience of wanting the damn thing to be real when i was younger, yields interesting results when is interacted with.

I have'nt read imajaca, but i think its whole premise is similar to a train of thought i once had after a period of performing certain rituals. Alas , it still sits in a box in my attic waiting to be read...My friends keep telling me that i'd love the great and secret show as well.....

I'd like to be the Cenobite of really stupid, insignifigant but annoying pain. Like... NIPPLE CRIPPLE! And CHINESE BURN! CHARLIE HORSE! CROW PECK! NOOGIES! Pinch and a punch for the first of the month, birthday punches, got your nose... I could pop out of the Lament Configuration Box and give you a mean wedgie, step on your toes and start singing The Song That Never Ends. And then I'd drink all your milk!
I have such sights to show you. And I have slides!

Thanks fer the audio links I downloaded some to combine with techno (but not as we know it!), and I am making an audio background (cut up and folded in sampledelica, via Cool Edit Pro) which would act as a good ritualised prop with strobes and smoke machines and incenses fer all sort of dark shenanginans and workings. I loved the earlier Clive Barker stuff, pissed all over Hutson, Smith and the splatterpunk cronies. Has essence and shows rich textures. I always thought he tilted his hat to s+m fer some reason. Impressive research into his mythos. Stuff what dreams and nightmares are made of indeed. Working with the Cenobites almost like an alternative to the others promoted elsewheres. I mean people have experimented with Agent Smith, I must admit I invoked Steed from the New Avengers fer some goddamn reason!

Steed could have Pinhead, ney bother. The Cenobites are nowhere near as immaculately suave as John Steed. Fact. Did Pinhead ever get himself a tailor-made suit made up? Can you imagine him in a bowler hat and charcoal grey edwardian suit? I fucking doubt it. No contest. "I have such things to show you"... Yeah, fuck off mate, come back when Bela Lugosi doesn't dress you.

I always wanted to be able to work pnuema. It sounded really cool. kenetic spit magic!!! Also his mantra from Weaveworld 'One, two, then the multitude' is particularily wise if you think about. Its something I've absorbed into my own personal mythology...

The concept of magical 'suits' ala a deck of cards was pretty cool idea from 'a great a secret show'. The shit and cum suit produced flying worm demons!!!!

Iniquisitive

I actually took my username from Iniquisit, the fortress of Midnight in Barker's book Abarat, which in a strange way has become a sort of personal bible. Or maybe a history.

I think any work of fiction can be seen as a perfectly valid mythos. Clive Barker's fiction is nothing if not electric with ideas. The Hellraiser stuff doesn't really speak to me, though, but that's just personal preferences. I'd like to hear how any experiments might turn out, though.

In "Pop Magic" (Dunno if it's his webpage version, but it IS in the Disinfo Book Of Lies) Grant Morrison discusses the invocation of Cenobites briefly.

In case you wanted to know.

Anybody played the Barker-overseen first-person game, "The Undying"? I heard it had a cool system for using magic- you had to trace a glyph from memory in the air with the character's hand controlled by the mouse. And you could use a special kind of vision, like Lovecraft's "From Beyond", that would show you the spirit world underlying the physical plane.
