Why I like being a moderator

I just wanted to say somewhere that one of the nicest things about being a moderator is reading the reasons why people want things moderated. The things that people write really, really make me laugh and almost invariably, the 'reason' box has something amusing in it. It hardly ever just says 'typo' and there's always some kind of language or grammatical clarification or diatribe about the mistake, which is hilarious to read.

So yes, this isn't really a thread for discussion as such, it's just me being a bit warm and fuzzy.

Ooh, and I was just wondering where I could post to say how much I like it that now (since I came back), when you've done all your "jobs", the board tells you "You have no outstanding jobs - good work!" I know I'm a dreadful overachiever/good girl/swot and sneke in manner of Hermione Granger/beta-male puppy who swoons with bliss every time his pack leader gives him a biscuit, but it gives me a little happy feeling every time. Good work! I did something good!

So thank you for starting this thread.

It's nice to know that one's reasons are appreciated.

It feels like I should make an effort to do something for the mods when they have to clean up after me. It's kind of like leaving a tip for a hotel maid.

Now that I kow this is so I will make more of an effort in the future.

Good work! I did something good!

I think we should get a little gold star image too.

I like the way that every week we're each allowed to ban one member. We've told the other board members about that, right?

Nice one, Biz. Now I'm going to have to use my week's allocation banning the next non-moderator who reads this thread.

Footrub. And hop to it. *wiggles toes*

Just for olulabelle, I shall be attempting to make my reasons funnier from now on. I mean, I do try, but I'll be trying extra-hardest now.

I must say, it threw me for a loop the first time I saw it. I so rarely have a concrete reason for anything I do...
It was all WHY and I was all WOAH and then I had to think about all this stuff that made my head hurt.
Can I edit my posts to make it look like I won an argument when I didn't? Or better yet, can I edit other people's posts? I replaced some jerk's post with a link to a picture of a five-foot-long fecal impaction once, and that's the kind of thing that makes moderating all worthwhile for me...

Hmmmm. yes. That's why we all moderator actions have to be agreed upon depending on their severity - precisely to stop that sort of thing.

I'm a bad person. But then, the situation on my board being what it was, the Admins felt they needed a Mod with "The temperament of a pit bull in a spin dryer", and my name must have come up. I think the internet is a great thing, when I can find a community that values me for the exact same qualities that saw me chased with a maypole and stuffed up a sewer pipe with a blanket full of ants back in primary school.
As I always say, society is to blame, so society must suffer! Gneep.

I totally spun out in a moderation request quite a while ago and grant sent me a pm and was really nice. Thanks grant!

You're welcome. I barely remember the incident in question, though.

I work hard at turning absent-mindedness into a positive virtue.

tbh I don't remember what I said or the specifics of your reply, I just recall it being nice that you didn't think I was being lame.

I was idly wondering about the various humorous reasons given for moderation requests not long ago when intoxication (yet again) reduced my already appalling quality control and I needed a post edited. Does anyone keep them? Even for their own enjoyment? Or are they stored anywhere? I'd love to read some record of them (with the requester's approval in each case, obviously) in a similar fashion to the Barbequotes thread which is always a first stop for me whenever I revisit the board.

I've also long had a hankering to listen in on moderator debate over, ahem, 'hot' thread content but realise that it may be too inflammatory to distribute - not because the moderators would be necessarily rude or personally abrasive or such-like but simply because sometimes it's best to leave the canines comatose.

Yeah, it's something that's been on my mind recently, having received some fucking killer ones. And while I'm sure the people in question wouldn't have minded, I didn't really want to set a precedent.
And then I forgot them.

I just realised how unintentionally rude my other sentence was and I didn't mean it. I'm so sorry, I feel that I have betrayed only the best things about the board. Please forgive me, I know not what I do. (Bryan Adams, not Ryan Adams)

I heart this person.

I will buy vast quantities of porn in your honour.

No, I don't need any help to write crap.

Can I just hijack the thread to say that I'm getting increasingly pissed off with a few idiots making out that moderators act out of a desire for power rather than because they want to keep the board running smoothly? Generally people who post once every six months purely in order to make their numbskull observation.

Fuck. It's not for the power?

*Hastily takes down the 'I am a moderator, FEEL THE POWER!' posters surrounding computer.*

Oh, O.K., now I see why the guys on my board keep referring to me as an evil Jedi or insane Paladin who runs around slaughtering goblins, laughing maniacally and licking his sword. But they love me, yes they do.

Have you been to Fade to Black, Lord Morgue? I think you'd enjoy it there.

Randy - kids call grown-ups fascists. It's one of those things. If it helps, you got an apology from King Mob in the CHIAROSCURO thread in the Creation.
