Because I like talking to myself.

I think techno is back with a vengeance this year. Between Ghostly, Perlon and Ivan Smagghe, between Alter Ego's "Rocker" and Agoria's "Stereolove" between I dunno lots of things.

I really hope this stays underground for a while and sees a return of those kind of clubs where the punters don't mind looking like they're fucked up.

Because much as I love listening to this stuff at home, I can only imagine how great it sounds REALLY LOUD.

Anybody heard any of these guys play?

I've gone off techno a lot but I'm all for clubs that look down on poseing. What ever happened to the shut up and dance ethic?

I'll give this stuff a listen.

Is clickety snap minimalist techno the same as micro-house? If so, I like it already. If not, I really want to like anything that makes techno exciting again, so give me a primer...

VA - "Superlongevity 3" (Perlon)
Ricardo Villalobos - "Alcahofa"
Agoria - "Stereolove" (me and timy mix)
Alter Ego - "Rocker"
Ivan Smagghe - "Suck my deck", "How to kill the DJ" and "Death Disco" (all mixed cds)

A close cousin of microhouse, but a bit more druggy and sweaty...

Yay!! This sounds all very interesting. Discovered microhouse last year via the Mutek festival website in Canada (many thanks to Jenn & Manousos for putting me on to it.) but didn't see much more of it after that. Have been waiting for a new tech mutation for some time. Though in all honesty I want acid house to be reborn. I keep seeing it on the horizon but it just hasn't eventuated yet...

Oh god Fool, you are going to be so happy. Listen - go now and immediately buy every mix you can get your hands on by Ivan Smagghe, particularly "suck my deck". This is acid house for the 21st century - head-melty fucked up druggie ish with no compromises. It's music for people in clubs to get fucked up to, no concessions to fashion. Seriously, I love love love this guy so much. I can only dream about hearing him in a club - all of his mixes are full of twisty little surprises and grooves that would just turn you upside down on the dancefloor. Let's persuade him to do an Asia-Pac tour...

Ah, acid house is the underground sound of the moment! At least it was the last time I went out, a few months ago... It's probably something-else already. Thanks Jefe, I look forward to checking these things out.

Oh god, yes, Kowalski is fantastische. Have you heard the Dahlback remix of "Hot Spot"?

Other great stuff from the second half of the year, techno-wise:

The Richard Bartz album - "Midnight Man" - dirty, sleazy sounding, very hard and fast.

DJ T - "Radiator" - DJ T put out a bunch of great electro-y tunes this year, but "Radiator" is very different, almost detroit-y.

Jesper Dahlback - "Robot Dance" - STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP - absolutely HUGE kick drum sound. And sounds exactly like a big steam-powered robot dancing. Features on the Andrew Weatherall Fabric 19 mix which is all acid house-y, and is pretty special.

Ferenc - "France" - minimal, fantastic simple repetitive bassline, relentless, kinda hard to describe what makes it so good, really.

Narcotic Syntax - "Drumpads of Jericho" - oh god, this is one of those tunes that I love so much I hardly ever play it because I don't want to get bored of it. Amazing crisp, funky drums, with japanese woman talking over the top of it, groove builds and builds with just percussion in the most delightful way and then a ridiculous synth-funk bassline crashes in. The japanese lady starts speaking again and then the whole thing collapses down into triplets instead of 4/4. Epic. Beautiful. Banging.

The Field's "From Here We Go Sublime" is a masterpiece. Claustrophobic beats that every now and then lift to an Orbitalesque level of joy and greatness. Check out "Everyday" on his myspace.

Gui Boratto's "Chromophobia" is also great with the track "Beautiful Life" being good enough to make grown men cry.

Trentemoller's "The Last Resort" is worth checking but the double album tends to wear me out before I get to the end of it. The track "Take Me Into Your Skin" is particularly great, with a nice build in it that in the last minute will try to blow your speakers apart with bass.

Hope this helps.
