bonjour!
I'm transferring to a university in montreal this fall and i don't know a soul. But i hitch hiked through a few weeks ago and was impressed as all hell with the city. seems to have a powerful counterculture base. I caught the first "Tam Tam" of the year too. wow. the turn out for a saturday afternoon drum circle beat most of the anti war marches i've seen. i can't wait to move there!

so really im just looking to meet some crazy cats before i get there, possibly to help organize some projects. i was thinking of starting a band (i sing) if there are any musicians around, or some type of artists group (the S.K.A.M. artists network), or some kind of zine/publication. really just some rabble rousing hobby to get a bunch of creative people together working on something.

also, what kind of underground scenes are there in montreal. i know you've got them! wiccans, pagans, discordians, weirdos, heathens, heretics, blasphemers? hello? anybody read comic books? anyone interested in voodoun? anyone write, paint, rap, play music, into theatre? anyone studying genetics, information theory, quantum physics, poly sci, biology, psychology, anthropology, comunication, cybernetics? any fortean times readers? iggy pop fans? anybody in montreal like to stir up trouble?

i have no anglo/franco bias. anybody with the patiance to try to teach me french?

The only thing I know about Montreal's counter culture is that you guys have the mighty Hotel2Tango. I've considered trying to track it down several times!

alright, cool. there's a start. since my post i found out that another aquaintence from montreal has frequently witnessed voudun ceremonies being held at night on the big mountain. that's what i'm lookin' for. montreal has a large hatian comunity as well, from what i hear. nice

they also have the madest political activists in north america, beyond doubt. the 2000 G7? are there any zapartiste's on barbelith? i caught one of your play's- contra de la empire. really good stuff.

but i'm really looking for writers , film makers, graphic artists, and musicians to hopefully collaborate with in the real world. not that this online space aint nice, but it aint everything.

PM me.

Count me in. I'm an Australian-by-way-of-Vancouver with ... with Barbelith compatible interests, is the quickest way of summarising.

Given that I've just moved to Montreal (for work) and given I'm planning on being here for a while, I'm also crazy-keen to meet the locals and get the groove on.

I thought I'd bump this thread rather than start a new one. I'm very excited to be visiting Montreal in October from Friday the 22nd through Sunday the 24th. Would anyone like to meet up, underground or above?

.

Try PMing Keggers, who I believe is in Montreal still. If anyone knows weird Montreal, it'd be him.
