Old 2000AD's

Borag Thungg Earthlets,

I have an enormous stash of old 2000ADs (progs 1-700 approx, plus the Morrison Big Dave stuff) at my mum's house. She is moving soon, and won't want to shift them all to the new house. I don't know if I want to shift them all to my flat, it's quite small.

Barbelith, what do I do with 'em?

Do I keep 'em, spend happy afternoons remininescing, identifying heavily with Judge Cal and Torquemeda and letching at Judge Anderson? Do I demostrate my contempt for material goods by binning 'em, an "Apocalyspe War" scenario? Do I find a small child to inflict them on - they would probably crush a small child if dropped from a medium height, if s/he survived she could play DR & Quinch in the playground.

Also, while we're on tehe subject, what were your favourite bits in 2000AD? Thoughts, comments, whatever. Two all time favourites spring to mind 1) The first appearance of Otto Sump in the "Get Ugly" story in Judge Dredd 2) An old Alan Moore future shock which featured a cosmic janior going around and sealing up black holes, changing the bulbs on suns which had gone nova and eradicating pesky civilisations. Also, does anyone else think Johnny Alpha was bloody rubbish?

Spludvinx ver Thrigg!!

Just did a search, this made me piss myself:

It always bothered me that Rogue's three dead mates were called Helm, Gunner and Bagman and hence their biochips (or whatever) were installed in his helmet, rifle and backpack respectively. It was just TOO convenient.

I think it would have been a very different story if his mates had been called Anklechain, Handkerchief and Dildo.
Twig the Wonder Kid, I'm so with him, it bothered me!

2000Ad - the glory of bygone days! Harlem Heros! Flesh! Early Nemesis with Kev O'Neil! And just how fucking mad was Metalzoic!

Does anyone know if rebellion (2000AD's current owners) have an archive of back issues? I'm not sure they'd even be interested in such a thing but the idealist part of my brain would love to have an archive of he old stuff available to readers...

I'd imagine Rebellion had an archive of some sort - but it would probably be the original film they are more interested in. I've only seen 3 books that utilised scans of comics (Transformers, Dan Dare and Supreme) rather than some variation of the original art.

2000adonline.com has a free classified section - you could flog the set and donate money to worthy causes/purchase beer.

maybe we should create a barbelith library, and all donate to rental space for it. i'd love to get my hands on a set like that, and then somehow find the time to read it.

Maybe you should give em to a hospital. Don't fucking bin them for God's sake.

Metalzoic was indeed bonkers.
As was The Dead, as far as I remember.
And all the John Smith stuff.
(not to mention Zenith... when, Lord, when? *sob*)

Hospital eh? Hospitals are obviously infected with thrill suckers, good idea. I like the idea of selling them through that board as well. But keep ideas coming folks!

Yeah, The Dead that was deeply insane. And reminds me Beranilli's (sp?) artwork - which takes me back to the Ace Garp Trucking Co.! How fucking good was that?

Bellardinelli?
Most bonkers serial? Still 'Indigo Prime' IMHO. Splundig.

1 - 700 got to be worth around £2000. There are plenty sold on e-bay for fair money.

Yeah, don't just bin 'em. There should be some comics library somewhere where such things can be donated for all to enjoy.

Anyone else remember The Visible Man?

Hoom - the value drops fairly significantly as the numbers roll on, and a lot depends on the quality, but ebay might not be a bad idea - stick 'em in and see how they go. Mind you, 2000AD is probably one of those ones where lots of people are hoping to round off their collections rather than start a new one complete.

Mind you, some hardcore Squaxxan in adult nappies is goign to be ready to buy 700 issues just to get hold of #345. his copy of which is covered in cum...

You need to stop writing stuff in the third person.

What you might want to do is dig out the progs that have become most sought after. The Cursed Earth Burger Wars storyline, for example. Have a search through the finished auctions on eBay to see what sort of price you can expect for them, then put those issues up with a decent reserve price for safety. Give the non-collectible stuff away to the hospital. That way, you get to make some money out of a few idiots and also make sure the rest go somewhere they'll be appreciated.

Win win.

Better to give them all away to somewhere they'll be read, though. Anybody buying the rare bits will just keep them sealed away forever, only handling them while wearing latex gloves and standing in a vacuum-sealed room. Screw him.

Well, I know several people that would be interested in the banned Cursed Earth episodes. Shame they're cheap skates. In terms of selling the progs you'd be better off making a block out of issues 1-500 rather than the later stuff, you could reasonably expect a decent price for them if they're in good condition.

You know, Belardinelli was missing presumed dead until the end of last year when he was tracked down and found to be alive and well and living outside Rome. Happy ending.

Au contraire, my pretty. When I feel my scrotnig starting to tighten after a long sesh with Bill Savage, electrical impulses from the affected area activate a cunning, self-steering man mustard umbrella that zips about, protecting my progs from liquid damage.

I call it the spunkrig vur frigg.

Not banned as such. Since the time of writing John Wagner has regretted the abusive language he used to describe the Japanese soldiers. Unable to use real swear words he had the hard bitten soldiers use terms like, well, terms he wouldn't use now. So for the reprints of the last year John Wagner asked that he could change the words. Alan Barnes controversially agreed.

Similar terms cropped up in the first few episodes of 'Robo-Hunter' so it'll be interesting to see what happens with next years graphic novel. I've been badgering the editorial droids for years about it and now I'm wondering if it needs changing...
