Well, Skit, that is one element of one particular belrif system. The term "Pagan" is a word used by the dominant beleif in a society (in this case christianity) to denounce other religions or beleif systems.
So, Wicca is Pagan. So is Hinduism. So are traditional African beleifs, and Voodoun, and more. What a lot of these beleifs have in common is a respect for nature (and sex)expressed through a number of different godforms, and also that they have nearly all been persecuted at some time by one of the major montheistic religions.
However, Hinduism, say, is very different from Voodoun, if you see what I mean. And you have to remember that christanity and islam go back to the semites who at first probably worshipped a number of gods, but all eventually lost favour to Yahveh, the sun god, who became the god of mainstream religion. so everything is connected really, and there's no reason to fight eachother.
The main good thing about being a pagan that I can think of is that a person can stand apart from mass conformity and still have a spiritual side if they want one. |
