A few empty posts popping up around the place. Not entirely sure why - people using lazy, pointless bumps, maybe? Whatever, is there a chance that we could have the board refuse to accept a post if the message box is left empty?

Well, if you write nothing in your post then you get what's displayed above. Any examples of the empty posts?

There was one in the TV forum but it was deleted.

That's what I mant by empty posts, GA - the 'none' message. I've noticed some in, I think, Music and Comics recently, too. I've certainly put a couple of others up for deletion recently.

I think that someone can't make a moderation request any more without including something in the reason box. So something similar could surely be done for the 'message' box...

Is a post that looks like
_
better than a post that looks like
none ?

I mean, people who are too lazy to type something interesting in the post are probably still capable of putting an underscore or a period in place.

It's just good housekeeping and an odd bit of missing functionality. Plus, I'm not sure that they are being submitted on purpose rather than just by mistake/stupidity.

Whatever, while both can - and, in all probability, will - be deleted by mods, at least covering the possibility of empty posts will make it easier to tell a mistake from a bit of intentional fuckwittery.

In fact it would give us the ability to recognise (what I like to call) problem posters rather quickly if they chose the _ method.

Maybe it's people getting confused when using the "Moderate Post" feature--they want to delete the post, but instead they delete the content and hit "moderate," rather than "delete."

Or would the moderators catch that sort of malarkey?

It might be that, because you can edit a post to empty it without the board noticing that's what you're doing, but of the empty posts I saw in the fora that I help moderate, none of them passed through my hands as proposed edits.

Could it be the user hitting Return with the focus out of the text field? I remember at least one browser used to submit a form, ready or not, if the punter did that.

Maybe in this case they are bashing Return repeatedly to wake up a screen saver or to see where the cursor is. Or something.

People that bash return repeatedly to wake up screen savers or find out where the cursor is shouldn't be allowed on the internet.

There's a shitload of double posts going through, too. Could we have the Post Reply button disabled once it's been clicked, to prevent people from hitting it twice?

Yeah, I'm thinking that it might be a good idea to impose a minimum word limit on the opening posts in threads to prevent dipshit "Discuss" starters...

Seconded. Although I should probably add I don't think of people who start threads like that dipshits, just lazy bastards.
