I've been looking everywhere for some Moebius stuff. One comic shop guy just sort of shrugged and said "yeah, we try to get his stuff in whenever we can, but it's not very often." Not much help. At another shop I was told that his stuff wasnt currently being published. That aint right. Does anyone know anything about this?

its generally difficult to find Moebius material at comic book shops, in my experience. try eBay. the original Epic graphic novels are sometimes available, as well as mini-series (like the elsewhere prince). dark horse and caliber also released some of his work. i heard that DC (?) will soon be distributing stuff published by Humanoids, a european group that puts out Moebius stuff, among other things...

ibooks is currently collecting the series Icaro, which I think is Moebius. Any bookshop should be able to get that for you. I think you'll have to go French.

Am I alone in thinking that 'whither moebius' is the most pretentious sounding thread title EVER?

well, moebius still does a lot of work...but it's in french. i was in paris a few months ago and found all kinds of things i'd never even heard of! (i couldn't afford them all unfortunately, or i'd be much happier.) if you can read french, you can probably order them over the internet. maybe there was just a vogue for his work in the eighties, his seventies work influencing many then-aspiring professionals and though we have many many options available to us now, the tenor of the comics scene is a little different than it was when moebius was first making comics in france and then later their english translations. is the public clamoring for moebius? when i read my copies of epic illustrated i look at all the talented people who were working in the field and wonder what happened to them? lots of them are still working...but who cares? i'm always surprised how rarely the artists with strong illustrative talent are acknowledged in the field, (as if people go too far outside of traditional comics style, then their artwork becomes not-comics). perhaps it could just be chalked up the different sensibilities of the general american audience. his comics tend to be very whimsical and meandering and that's just (it seems, correct me if i'm wrong) tolerated/appreciated more in europe. he just tells his own stories, doesn't work on corporate characters, i'm sure there are any number of reasons why his work isn't available.
