BBC End of Story competition.

BBC3 are running a competition in which new writers finish a short story which has been started by an established writer.

The writers involved are:

Ian Rankin
Sue Townsend
Fay Weldon
Marian Keyes
Joanne Harris
Shaun Hutson
Ed McBain
Alexei Sayle.

Hmmm. What's the best way to say this...something for everyone in that list.

The closing date is 31st May.

You don't get loads of money if you win, but you do get your story read on Radio 4, and you also get a bound copy of your story. You also have to go on BBC3 (not so fab) and you get to meet the author who wrote the beginning of the story you finished. Woo yay.

All the details for entry are here.

The teasers for the stories make them sound so crap I couldn't even face downloading one.

I was thinking about the Rankin one, too.

is there a rule that says you must be the sole author to enter?
do you wanna do one and i can enter it for you, say?

Alexei Sayle, predictably, kicks everyone else's ass. Do read his story even if you don't bother with the rest.

I have this idea for the Joanne Harris where the tree bends down and eats the stupid woman. I'm announcing this to the world because I'll probably never write it.

The worst is Fay Weldon's attempt. What a crap idea.

God, Shaun Hutson really is Garth Merenghi, and I claim my five pounds.

I'm starting my own scheme, In the Beginning, where I give you a story ending and you fill in the foreblab.
"...and he never saw ring-tailed lemurs in the same light again."
Or Punc't, where I give you all the punctuation and you add the words.
",,.,;,.;,;,.,;.;!!!!!!!!@{=}&£!!!!"
