I applaud the idea of softer cars. I would extend the concept to all road vehicles. They should also be lighter so that there is less momentum when they hit things. It seems to me that making them heavier (i.e., SUV) is the wrong way to go. It makes more sense to make them lighter and less dense. They could even be really, really huge in the USA where they like really, really huge things, as long as they are also soft and fluffy.
Imagine the scenario: person strolling on the sidewalk, SUV comes around the corner at a speed that exceeds its limits of control and/or adhesion, SUV slams into person, person exclaims jovially "hey, it tickles," driver replies, "sorry about that, buddy - my giant, fluffy Cadillac Escalade tends to do that from time to time due to the lack of road grip from these giant, fluffy tires." |
