DC to distribute 2000AD trades

According to this link, DC will be the US distributor for those trades Titan doesn't have the rights to (the magazines will still be published by Rebellion).

Any thoughts/recommendations?

Could be good, could be bad. Some of older material would either need to be printed in B+W or recolored. Some of the later material probably isn't worth reprinting. From the looks of the inital solictations they are focusing on the later day material so who knows what might come out. Hopefully they will cherry pick some of the best stuff of the name creators (Moore, Gaiman, Morrisson etc) and get it into print ASAP.

Hopefully this is a sign that we might see Zenith reprinted.

Well, the Rebellion guy in that thread has it that there's no new info on the release of the Zenith trade. It's also stated that the b&w strips won't be coloured in.

The heck with Zenith, when do we get the Charley's War trades reprinted? Huh? I know The Megazine or somesuch is rerunning them, but that's not good enough.
Probably the only essential zooad trades are the Nemesis books which are currently available. Oh, and DR and Quinch.
and Halo Jones.

Rebellion have basically taken producing trades in-house, barring a few outstanding agreements with Titan (which probably includes Zenith). This DC deal will prolly see the lion's share of 2000AD's graphic novel becoming available to a US market.

Highlight for me would be Hewligan's Harircut - Pete Milligan and Jamie Hewlett...

To clarify the Zenith situation - AFAIA the same problem remains - Morrison contests Rebellion owns the strip. Rebellion, being primarily a computer game company they aren't partuicularly sold on the idea of spending more money on renegotiating the publishing rights on something they already thought they owned and would only realise a fraction of the money a new computer game might generate.

Titan's contract with Rebellion has never been fulfilled - the books were printed and were in a warehouse in Grantham. Who knows, Titan may have even decided to cut their losses and pulped the printing in order to save on the costs of warehouse space by now. But, yeah - don't hold your breath waiting...

Yeah, there is a nice Hardback version of Hewligans available now. As the upcoming books are going to have page counts in three figures it's unlikely they'll bring Hewligans out in the new format.

Upcoming highlights include a Devlin Waugh collection which includes 'Swimming in Blood', the early short stories, and 'Fetish'. There's also the first of a planned series of Nikolai Dante books that will hopefully bring the series to the wider audience it deserves. Expect to see Sinister Dexter, going up to at least 'Eurocrash', the hugely under-rated brilliance that is Sam Slade:Robo-Hunter in 'Verdus' and a reprinting of the long unnavailanle but much sought after Judge Dredd/Johnny Alpha tale 'Judgement Day'.

They're kicking the range off with a book that reprints the painted Batman/Judge Dredd tales. Hmmm. Batman and Judge Dredd. If only D.C. had an acclaimed artist under exclusive contract who has also done a lot of Dredd art in the past, perhaps one who was working on a Vertigo book with an ex-Tharg. Why, if they had one of those there'd be a great Dredd/Batman book in the offing...What's that? The artist in question has already spoken of such a thing? Heavens to betsy, that's great news!

Jamie Boardman, the Rebellion books editor, is a hugely enthusiastic man with great taste for what works and doesn't work in a collected edition. Expect great things from this man. Also expect him to rant about how shite the Darkness are after a few pints.

Oh, another long post raving about twokay. I'll be getting a reputation. Well, another reputation. Everyone knows I'm an arsehole.

I don't think they will be all that successful (since 2000 AD stuff has been imported before and only sells to a niche audience here), but I'm glad that DC is doing it. The Dredd stuff should be nice and I'd like to try some of the other work if the prices are decent. My problem with 2000 AD is that it is so expensive here.

Then again, DC DID have the US rights to Dredd before, and put out a horridly shitty little series featuring him.
