The Winds of Jupiter

Thought this might be of interest on our protective big brother in the solar system
Jupiter, it seems, is about to lose some of its characteristic spots. And the reason will be familiar to readers on Earth — climate change.

The spots, many of them easily seen from Earth-based telescopes, are caused by vast long-lived storms that roil the Jovian atmosphere.

Over the next few years, a scientist at the University of California at Berkeley predicted last week, those storms will shift. Then Jupiter's climate will spawn a new generation of storms.

But the scientist, Dr. Philip S. Marcus, a professor of mechanical engineering, said the biggest storm, the Great Red Spot, would persist unaffected.
