Quite how a band which consists of one man and a frequently changing cycle of pals can 'split up' is a curious question, but still.. sad news.
I'm particularly annoyed because I just missed them the last time they played in the UK, thinking "well I'll see them next time", but by the sound of this it sounds like they won't be coming back..
SO: is this Pollard effectively announcing his retirement, or is his unkillable song writing prowess still going to be manifesting itself under various other names..? The latter I hope.
The 120 minute GBV greatest hits tape that Matthew Flux sent me a while ago is an absolute holy artifact - more condensed fantastic song-ness than I've ever heard in one place before, all of it staying true to my own Pop Genius formula; Great Pop Tunes + Loads of Guitar Noise + Weird & Interesting Lyrics = PERFECTION.
The amount of time I've spent wandering the streets listening to it at ear-damaging volume doesn't bare adding up - clearly time well spent, since all my embryonic song-writing experiments sound like GBV rip-offs.
A salty farewell salute to Pollard and his chums anyway. |
