Ariadne & Loomis farewell bash

Loomis

Okay, we've got a date ... and not much else, so let the suggestions commence. The date: Sat 15th May.

The rough plan is to start in the afternoon - maybe around 2-3pm and continue till closing and probably after depending on how drunk we are and who wants to do what at the time. This way if people have other committments then they can drop in for a few hours either during the afternoon or the evening. And it means I can drink more. Win-win really.

But we need ideas for a venue. Obviously a pub of some description. Somewhere with either lots of room or with pehaps a separate room we could use. And preferably somewhere that does at least basic food so people don't have to depart in search of sustenance. We considered the PL, but I don't think it's good luck to be farewelled with filthbeer.

No doubt we'll see as many people as we can at various other points but this will be the one big bash so I hope as many people as possible can make it.

bloody hell, sorry to hear you two are going, and er, yes, I'll be there. Some else can make the decision as to where "there" actually is, I'm all hungover and indecisive today, bless me.

Loomis
16:02 / 25.04.04
Glad you can make it Bill - I haven't seen you in ages. Where've you been hiding yerself?

Hurrah, I'm not working so I can most definitely come. I would say that as it's your bash it should be a pub of your choosing, somewhere near where you live and a tube station.

Loomis
19:18 / 25.04.04
That's not a bad idea - I've always dreamt of a barbmeet in Leytonstone so I could just roll on home afterwards. Might be a bit of an ask though ...

Oh no! That's Throbbing Gristle weekend! Oh well, if I don't make it for TG I'll definitely come along!

I find it extremely inconsiderate of the two of you to be moving and leaving me without an Ariadne and a Loomis to hang with - who will I go to the One Tun with? Who else will share my joy of 80s comedies?

But I will be there. Probably all day!

I'm going to put my vote in for two places:

One, the Fitzrovia does do a wide variety of food, and it's not too expensive. Though Ariadne would you like to escape Goodge Street?

Two I know it's a long shot but Garlic and Shots is open 'til 2, has interesting Swedish metal playing, has a nice back garden and has great garlicky food. Though expensive.

But, no matter what, as Peabo Bryson once said, Yeah Imo Be there...

Ha, no need to escape Goodge Street. The Fitzrovia's not a bad plan. And they do salad sarnies for us lettuce munchers.

Fitzrovia good.
Count me in with bells on.

Loomis
12:34 / 26.04.04
I like the Fitzrovia. Does anyone know if it gets busy there on a Saturday? And if it's a nice day we can sit in the traffic *COUGH* of course I meant beer garden.

And I'm sure by then I'll be in need of some more silly vintage clothes from the shop opposite it.

Ariadne
13:40 / 26.04.04
oh my, is that where you bought the hotpant-suit? That was astonishing. Have you ever worn it?
I thought that shop was really dear? Everytime I look in it seems to be about 100 quid for a handbag. I'm not big enough on designer stuff to want to shop there.

Ariadne: not neccesarily. The shoes I wanted were only £30. It's a thing of joy, that shop.

I will try to be there, although the prospect of being drunk in with switch card and vintage shop in proximity worries me.

I shall restrain you... by going into the shop with you and buying everything myself...

(fat chance, if only I could. No Switch card, you see)

Sounds like a plan. Can we come and visit you, though? Have always fancied visit to Valvona & Crolla...

Ariadne
05:54 / 27.04.04
Of course you can come and visit! Please do! We'll be quite close to Valvona and Crolla so you can go as often as you like.

I haven't worn it yet, other than round the house when everyone is out, but have an ideal opportunity this weekend- a disco/ceilidh at a gym festival, which is always suitably kitch, camp and spangley for such an outfit.

Ariadne
09:15 / 27.04.04
A gym festival. What a weird world you live in. Is that in London? Will everyone be incorporating forward rolls into the Gay Gordons?

Bear
10:53 / 27.04.04
Isn't it just called The Gordons now? It's PC gone mad!!! Heel Toe/Heel Toe

I'm going to come along to your farewell and drink gin and weep all night....

Perhaps Ariadne and Loomis could bring the leaving do to me by hopping off the train at Leeds for half an hour when they're moving up north.

Loomis
12:01 / 27.04.04
Why don't we book a private train and we can have a Barbelith Train Party, picking up stray members as we chug our way north?

Although I don't think we'll have enough room for the whole board to stay with us when we arrive at the final stop ...

Olulabelle
12:58 / 27.04.04
If you do that then you have to start the train in Somerset, else you miss me out...

Loomis
15:59 / 27.04.04
How about we do Land's End to John O'Groats? That way we won't miss anybody. We could get the naked rambler to drive the train - he knows the way.

18:20 / 27.04.04
sorry loomis - not even that is good enough - we need to to the Czech rep. again...

gingerbop
23:07 / 27.04.04
Aha, but Loomis, you dont need room for the whole board, for you're not going to the final stop. No doubt there'll be a few Illmatic stylie people who'll fall asleep, and can stay with Bear's mum, or if they're feeling brave; mine.

Alas, funny festival thing is in Glasgow. Our display is on a James Bond theme, but neither costumes, make-up or the routine itself has anything to do with James Bond. I'm sure he did more social dancing than gymnastics, so perhaps we should take up your suggestion, Ariadne.

Oh, and has anyone else met the naked rambler? Not as happy a chappy as I would have imagined.

This is the best idea I've ever heard. And very much in the spirit of SPRING BREAK!!!

Ah, I like that idea too, could we not have a train that went both ways?

HEY!!

Perhaps they'll fall asleep between two massive bean bags and have pictures of this posted on the internet unless they stop with the cheek? Hmmm?

Ha ha! No don't - haven't you ever seen ms. bop's scary eye stare!!? She's very powerful, you know...

Now TG have cancelled I'm definitely on for A&L's leaving bash!

Ariadne
07:11 / 29.04.04
They cancelled because they're playing at our leaving do.

(Not really - sorry, Stoatie)

Arrrrgh! Having potential real world clashes with this. Damn, Damn, Damn. Won't know whats a happening until closer to the time. If we don't make it, I hope we will be able to snaffle you for a wee drinkie or two on another day/night.

And such conflict of emotion. 1)Yay, you're both getting to do what you want to do and will be happy and will have such fun in your new country ... BUT ... 2)Baaaaahhhhhhh! You're leaving! Such conflict.

Loomis
19:38 / 29.04.04
But then there's ... 3)you get to come visit us in Edinburgh! Yay!

07:27 / 30.04.04
oddly enough, i predict a large amount of people coming to visit you around the time of the festival... see you then then...
