What is it about and why do people keep claiming it is the next Supergirl? Is it any good?

i've read the first 8 issues and they are decent. its a bit slow moving, but pretty good all in all. a nice change from the usual science-hero titles. it isn't as tweaked out as some reviews make it seem (but would probably be better if it were). not at the top of my list, but i do recommend it.

...why do people keep claiming it is the next Supergirl?

Fallen Angel debuted within a few months of the last issue of PAD's cancelled Supergirl series, and a lot of people believe that the character in Fallen Angel is the Supergirl that dissappeared at the end of that last issue. Although this has never been officially confirmed, PAD made a few cryptic statements online supporting the idea during the lull between the end of Supergirl and the beginning of Fallen Angel. OTOH, he may have just been trying to drum up interest in his new series.

I've also been a bit curious about the book; is it worth the price of the TP, you think?

Word is, Fallen Angel is Supergirl like Ragged Robin is Crazy Jane, if that analogy helps - i.e. Fallen Angel is Creator Owned, Supergirl is owned by DC.

Therefore, if Peter David comes out and confirms the link, DC own his character. So you won't see the link confirmed anytime soon.

It's vaguely his Supergirl but with the serial numbers filed off. PAD's Supergirl ends with the pseudo-angelic supergirl retiring and wanting to find some place where not having a conscience is a benefit not a hinderince, a place where her "cold ember of a heart" could be of use to some people.

And iFallen Angel is a fun little series.

Which has returned, out this week from IDW press. Anybody buying the second run?

I forgot to pick it up today. I am definitely on board for this second run. The first run was one of DC's best books, and lead up to an amazing finale (then there was a fun but fillerish Sachs and violens cross over prior to DC pulling the plug).

I never read PAD's Supergirl and it did not impact my reading in the slightest: if there are any allusions to SG, then they are skillfully subtle. I think that this was a gimmick of sorts. Just forget about Supergirl and enjoy the series old and new...

#1 of the IDW series was beautiful. Best of the four books I bought this week. It set up some solid plot-threads, although I only read the first (only) DC trade of FA, so I'm not sure how much was added to and explained about Lee or Juris in the meantime...anyone care to recap?

The second set of DC's Fallen Angel run has just been put out in softcover trade form, as Down to Earth. Odd move, it seems, considering PAD took the series and moved over to IDW a while back (whatever happened there? I only read first issue of that run), and I can't think if he's currently doing any other series for DC at the moment. Are they trying to court him back into the fold?

's a good trade, though. Lee's relationship with Mariah is suitably complex and suitably noir and we begin to see more traces of how Lee's day life links up with Fallen Angel's night life. Brutal in a lot of places and I think PAD could have differentiated the unexpected flashbacks a bit more but it was good. I'm curious to see if they'll trade the rest of the DC run now.

There's an IDW trade out, which I bought after a friend reccomended it; it's really gorgeous. Not sure if it's still a going concern, though, the IDW site was a bit sketchy. I shall definitely be hunting for the two DC trades come pay day...!

Oh, and incidentally, PD confirmed in the introduction to the IDW trade that there was a plan in place to make Fallen Angel into Supergirl, but obviously when DC canned the book, he changed the storyline.

Yup, Fallen Angel is still going, and still quite good. And as regards the Linda Danvers Supergirl, Peter David's implied on his blog that she'll have something to do with issues 14 and 15. How that will work as regards copyrights and trademarks and lawyers and such, I could not even begin to guess, but I'm curious as hell.

I think Mariah's background with Wilde is disturbingly cool. PD sets up some really intriguing binaries in Fallen Angel -- Lee/Juris (chaos and order or good and evil or both and all), Mariah/Wilde...

Does he explore daytime Bete Noire more? I'm so curious.
