I was SO tempted to title this THE POLYGON SYSTEM. Anyway...
This thread is an outgrowth of another thread I began titled 'The Rule Of Shadow'. In it, I asked a question about the classic prohibition against blabbing about your willwork...could anyone think of cases where violating the rule to "keep silent" might lead to more powerful workings?
I don't have a good answer, nor do I have any experience of my own work being enhanced thereby. However, for the past few years I've been kicking around a hazy idea about how to make doubt work for me through selective violations of the Rule of Shadow. Basically, it goes thusly...
a) Magick and psychokinesis operate on the same psychic principle; namely, the willed distortion of patterns of probability. However, such distortions do not always occur in harmony with the 'workers intent. As demonstrated by sheep/goat effect, deep beliefs can overpower temporary desires. This can create an opposite effect to the desired one.
b) In the way different individuals distort probabilities, they might be usefully compared to electronic components. Some components inhibit the distortion, others enhance it. It may be possible to find correspondances and analogues between various component types (semiconductor, frequency transformer, capacitor, etc) and different kinds of people.
c) If that was the case, it might be possible to fruitfully use all types of people in a group 'working, not just initiated believers. Indeed, the selective use of non-believers (resistors), agnostics (semi-conductors), innocents (capacitors), fanatics (frequency transformers) and so on, placed in proper relation to each other might enhance and focus willwork in ways we cannot presently imagine. Witness the mad shite you can do with electronics...not exactly obvious from the get-go.
So, for example, PEAR's microPK tests got impressively superior results from opposite gender pair groups than from same gender pair groups; romantically involved opposite gender pair groups did better still (though I haven't seen any results on whether gay couples perform equally well, and I'd be curious to know).
I figure this kind of groupmind enhancement effect is the basic idea behind the ritual circle, the coven, and so on. However, using a single type of component related in a simple way is a simple circuit, and good for only simple effects; in this instance, amplification.
Of course, the actual construction of "circuits" is tricky...do they exist in space? time? I believe magick is acausal and atemporal, so I would say "no". It seems that the "wiring" as it were would be in the form of systems of correspondence (which I mean in both the magickal and mundane senses) and controlled ritual use of the Law of Sympathy. I dunno past that...
Does anyone have any comments here? I know the analogy could be stronger, but I'm curious if anyone has ideas about clarifying or formalizing this idea. |
