I routinely refer to thesaurus.com when a word escapes me. it might not offer you exactly what you want, and you might have to really dig around for it, but often it serves as a really effective springboard for sending you off in the right direction

Ta for the suggestions, all. Ganesh: you can take the boy out of Aberdeen etc. I’ve used the word “popularisation”, in fact…in an exciting piece about the evolution of these funny wee chips for mobile phones, for my work.

Just to utilise this thread now that meme's finished with it... is there such a word as academicisation, and if not, what do I mean? And if there's nothing near it, could I use it and would everyone understand it?
