I caught The American Astronaut at the Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival sunday night. It's a gem. Lone space cowboy in a bar on asteroid Ceres takes a job delivering clone of a Real Live Girl to Jupiter mining colony to trade for The Boy Who Actually Saw A Woman's Breast ("It was round and soft, now get back to work") to take to the women of Venus. It's really low-budget, but the story and music (by the Billy Nayer Show) easily carry the film.

If you recognize some of the faces, it's because half of the cast come from shows like The Sopranos, CSI and Law and Order.

For those of you who did not have the opportunity, you REALLY need to see this.

The film is black and white, very low budget, with all original music. Space is portrayed as a very boring dusty dirty place populated by dirty men. The most valuable prize is a (gasp) real live girl represented by a kind of cannister with a slide-away panel. Featuring great music consisting of songs like 'The girl with the vagina made of glass,' this film is a must must must see.
