Just a drink addled Jedi thought: aka the Star Wars Surgery

If striking Ben down made him more powerful than you can possibly imagine, then why didn't all the dead Jedi's from the clone wars or what-ever just rise up against the emperor? My friend claimed that none were jedi master's except for ben, yoda and anakin, but what about Mace and the long-headed fella?

Mr. Ken Obi was actually lying through his teeth. It was just a bit of Jedi trash-talking, trying to get Darth thinking 'What's he got up his cloak-sleeve?'.

Actually, they'll apparently be getting to that in III.

Well...my take on that statement has always been that he meant that by striking Ben down in front of Luke, Luke will make it his mission to be come the Jedi Hero and overthrow the Empire out of a sense of revenge...that Lucas of course paints as idealism.

Why can't Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi Wan use their Jedi powers to save the Naboo in Ep One?

i hope the reason the only ghosts that we've seen are yoda ben and annakin is a dark one.
perhaps the sith performed a ritual that dissipated the energy of the jedi? remember that those three all die a lot later in the story, and thereofre maybe after the purging.

like, killing them for ever, like the baddies did to the viking in that really old robin hood tv show. y'know, the one where they get animals to tear him to shreds without a sword in his hand to stop him going to valhalla? like that, only instead of the sherrif of nottingham we get grand moff tarkin.
wouldnt it be nice if mr lucas had the nutz to condemn all those lovely jedi to an existenceless purgatory for all eternity.

the wages of sith may be death, but that jedi retirement plan sucks.

We see a dead Sith ghost in Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic (and you can turn him to the light!). I know it's even more Aeons in the past but it is part of the continuity isn't it?

If I recall correctly only the stuff in the films is considered absolutely canonical. Everything else, i.e comics, novels, games, those odd little cartoons from the eighties etc, is subject ot change and contradictions; though obviously Lucasarts or whoever try and keep everything tied together without too many cockups.

The Clone Wars cartoon is canon though isn't it? Approved and written by George and all...

I don't know about the Clone Wars, other than what I've read on this board. Unfortunately in my present straitened circumstances I have been cut off from Cartoon Network. If it is canon, and I bow to your superior knowledge on this, then what can I say but whoops! AFAIK what I said still stands for everything else though.

I always assumed that statement was about a subtler deeper power - that dying and going into the Force not only made him understand things at a more fundamental level but also made him able to guide things - even if only in the most circuitous of ways. I always thought that it was another one of those interesting juxtapositions between the sides - that along with the dark side being angular, sterile, machinelike and voracious vs the light side being organic growth, nurturing and filled with a flexible and emergent strength there was also another aspect of full-on frontal assault physical power vs. the more 'subtle' arts.

Clone Wars is 100% offical. It's what happened between episode II and III

And it's a fab. A fucking Werewolf Jedi! Do you know how happy that made me?!
