I was wondering if I could get some productive dialogue on this question. How old is too old to still be a virgin? Hit me up with your musings on this one.

Depends if it's owing to a lack of interest or a lack of success...

Sex is great, there is no time frame to it though, as long as it is when you and your partner want to do it, then it is right.

I kind of admire someone who is a virgin into their 20s, if it's through choice. It might make them more attractive to me in some ways, although it does also put ideas of cobwebby genitals into my mind, and give me a flinching notion that they might be incredibly uptight and underconfident in bed. The concept of someone like the younger Britney Spears, or Alicia Silverstone as Cher, or a Mills and Boon heroine (back in the day at least) or an Austen protagonist being a virgin because of her morals is even almost sexy: you could imagine like they're all pristine and saving themselves for YOU, and start fantasising about the incredible moment when you're the first person to do all that stuff with her on the perfect night you had to set up to get inside her knicks. NB. she might also be really good at foreplay because she's been concentrating on hand and blow jobs instead of actually going the full home run.

But if she's like Miss Bates in Emma, the virginity bit just enforces her lack of appeal, like underlining how unattractive and asexual she is and making you wary of even touching her in case bats fly out.

So: if the virgin is sexy looken, hot in bed up to 3rd base and has great morals -- GOOD

If the virgin is unattractive and is desperate to lose it, or is a virgin because seriously lacking in confidence -- more or less offputting.

WHICH 1 IS U?

As kovacs suggests - virginity defined around penetration is a bit of a red herring, isn't it? Being English, I'm not precisely sure what happens specifically at each of the four bases (there are 4, right?), but it's quite possible to have a full and active sex life without penetration ever occurring.
And even if penetration is central to your definition of losing one’s virginity, penetration of what? What's the relative status of the body's penetrable cavities? And what must they be penetrated with to qualify?

Well, I think most of us accept the working definition of (for straight girls and boys) penis going in the vagina as "losing virginity".

For others, I guess the definition is more ambiguous. Some gay fella might not think he'd lost his virginity until he'd had it in his ass. Another might think he'd lost it the first time a guy made him ejaculate. I don't personally know, being a breeder myself.

I'm also not American, but I believe 1st base is kissin, 2nd is touching the bosom, 3rd is down below and 4th is all tha way. I'm not sure how clothing is factored into this. Touching the bare bosom is clearly a bigger deal than touching it thru a sweater, and thru a bra is different again, so there should really be base 2.3, 2.6 and then 3rd base.

That's math!

Oh, Mr. Kovacs, you're going to be in for quite the education here.

Why is anyone assuming that the person who started this thread is female?

Female virgins = kinda hot to some people, no duh. But what about male virgins? I suspect that's what we're dealing with, since the stigma around male virginity is quite a bit different.

It's not like you mutate into something wonderful immediately after your first shag.

Don't worry.

I actually mentioned straight girls and straight guys, then moved on to discuss gay men, giving the disclaimer that I didn't know personally how gay folk would define virginity.

In terms of my first post, I was offering my view on whether I found virginity appealing or offputting. As a straight fellow, I don't hold much opinion on whether a male virgin is appealing: he wouldn't be sexually attractive to me whether he'd done it before or not. I think it's fair enough if I was commenting from my own position -- and I wasn't trying to offer the original poster personal advice, but giving an immediate, general response.

I don't see how you need to educate me.

I would edit to add but it seems too much hassle here:

It's true that my first post above is slightly flippant and also does use "someone" to mean "female", only making it clear that I'm talking about girls a little later on --

I kind of admire someone who is a virgin ...like the younger Britney Spears, or Alicia Silverstone as Cher

-- but that was simply because I'm not bothered either way about men being virgins, as I don't tend to think about them sexually. I should perhaps have specified "I kind of admire a young woman who is a virgin."

I don't think there is an age that can be said to be definitely too old to be a virgin. It's such a personal thing it's down to the individual.

Do you think you're too old to be a virgin? I didn't lose my virginity until my early twenties, primarily because I just wasn't interested in meaningless sex and I knew that it would happen when it felt right. And it did. And it was fucking great.

When I knew I'd met the right woman I actually delayed making love for a few weeks, as I knew we were falling in love and wanted it to be even more 'special'.

What I'm trying to say (I think) is that everybody has a different right time, and each have their own reasons for it, and that time will probably chance upon you when you're least expecting it and not actively looking for it. I'd recommend you stop worrying, relax a little and just let things happen.
