Batman and Robin fighting crime - in Whitley

I always wondered why there aren't more people taking to the streets wearing a cape and cowl and busting skulls.

Although the dynamic duo of Whitley don't seem to have been getting too hardcore with the vigilantism, they have 'dealt with a pair of streakers at a local football cup final'.

Ray Cox, 61 says "It would make it a better and safer place with these men".

Who else thinks this is the greatest thing evah? Maybe Batman has arrived here via some hypertime hijinks...

If I'm answering seriously rather than enjoying the gag of the whole thing:

Firstly, I am dubious about involving Robin. Having Robin at your side totally erodes any potential for striking fear into criminals. However, I can see the pragmatic advantage in having a partner -- for the back-up, and frankly for the company. Unless the real-world Batman is an insular loner, you wouldn't really want to be hanging out on your own doing these social duties. You'd want someone to talk to.

Secondly, from the description they sound like the Only Fools and Horses incarnation of the duo -- that is, the Adam West and Burt Ward costume. Obviously, these outfits are comical and impractical: they're brightly coloured and flimsy. A real-world Batman who genuinely wanted to make a go of it would need something darker and more substantial.

Well, hopefully they stopped reading comics right before Dark Knight Returns and those types of comics came out. That way they're not cynical cunts trying to murder people and taking triple shots of adrenaline with their coffee. I'd rather have a nice Adam West type Batman stopping local streakers than some nutcase trying to stop drug dealers and the like and getting himself shot. And I salute the man who's wearing the Robin costume. Only wearing a Namor costume and fighting crime would take more courage.

Yeah, fair enough although the darknight detective Batman actually came back into play around 1970.

I'm trying to think of costumes more embarassing than Namor. It's difficult. I guess something like The Wasp's outfit, for a man, might take some bottle.

And a Batmobile that gets 60 miles to the gallon. Now this the level-headed Batman I've always wished for.

Oh no all my illusions have been shattered. Here's the pic pants payroll found:

They look like they've taken a wrong turn in the marathon.

Ray Cox must be a soft bastard if he reckons these two are gonna protect him from the criminal gangs of Whitley.

Hey, Robin looks kinda cool as a skinhead.

Anyone else think Batman looks like his incarnation in those "RealWorlds" books DC did a couple years back? Or to be more blunt: heavy and Downs Syndromed?

Christ I hope they don't try fighting crime in Reading. I can just see the headlines:- "Costumed simpletons beaten to death in city centre."

This is kind of funny but I too have long wondered why mental geeks never dressed up to fight crime.

From time to time, some do...

Maybe a bit nippy to dress as Namor to fight crime in Whitley. Now, Whitby maybe, that’d be the perfect home for the British Namor. Well, during the summer season, anyway. With the Yorkshire Human Torch getting the bus out from Brid for the occasional ruck.

Hmm. How did this get here? Didn't I start this over in 'Comic Books'?

I'm afraid. Somebody aim the Bat signal over Whitley - there's a mystery at hand.

There's also the St. Cloud Superman (of St. Cloud, Minnesota), who's been helping those in distress for quite a few years now.
