My fave scene(s) : whenever Gary Oldman and his bodyguards turn up at the apartments. (twice i think)

He's one of my favourite actors and he does that part brilliantly.

Sarah--this sort of thing is best suited to the Film, TV and Theatre forum, no?

Well, since Sarah's said she just wants to chat about it, I think it probably still falls more into the realm of conversation.

It probably should be moved but as the thread's almost certainly going to be dead in a few hours I can't be bothered to mod it to move it.

I can think of a "nit pik". You asked any1 got imformation on the film 'leon' , But you didn't want any kind of specific imformation at all! It turned out you had very little to say about the film despite all the unwarranted generosity you've received here.

My fuck! don't ever make me a mod on this board, because threads like this wouldn't survive past their first five seconds.

I personally love the scene when Gary Oldman (gotta love him) and his goons show up to kill Mathilda's parents. Pop a pill, cue music, start killing.
It's grand.

Please remember that two (or perhaps more) versions exist of this movie. Which I found out to my delight some years ago. It was originally cut because the grown man (but not intellectually so), underage girl love story was dangerously ...upsetting for some.

This other version - the uncut one - has an extended riff on the relationship between Leon and Mathilde (a dinner at a restaurant, champagne, lies and all - "I'm 18," claimeth & giggleth Mathilde - is funneh!).

I believe the DVD is the extended, standard one now.

Not quite how moderation works here, Kovacs - check the FAQ.

I love the film. Very few scenes get to me emotionally like Mathilda standing outside Leon's door, begging him to let her in, while Leon is reluctant becuase he knows that that would be the end of life as he knew it. Their relationship was so well developed, and complex, it made the entire film riveting viewing.

I believe both the US cut, known as The Professional, and the international version are available widely on DVD. Based on one viewing of each, there's not that many differences, though the international is clearly the movie of choice.

And, I heard rumors that Natalie Portman might be doing a follow up as Mathilda. On the one hand, I'd like to see it, considering it's by far her best acting performance, however, in a lot of respects, I don't think that there's really anything to add to the original.

Mod Hat - xxsarahxx, you may find many of your fellow posters here "geeky", but there are also right. One of the things that distinguishes Barbelith is a generally high level of conversation, and a correspondiong respect for one's interlocutors. Take a look at some of the other threads in Film, TV and Theatre and see how they play out.

And, Sarah, not to be rude, but most posters will take the time to actually write out words, not just use the net abbreviations. You is only two more letters than u.

Well, as usual (cf me on Donny Darko, Angel season 5 and The Passion of the Christ), I disliked it. I thought it was basically a Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan fluffy romance ("He's a hitman! She's a tiny child! They fall in love!" instead of "He's a single father in Seattle! She's a jaded engaged woman in New York! They fall in love!"), but with pretensions, which meant it wasn't even as enjoyable or competently paced/structured as Sleepless in Seattle. But then I'm collecting cross-age movies at the moment, so I paid more attention to that relationship than to the plot.

Not quite how moderation works here, Kovacs - check the FAQ.

I'm sure that's actually for the best because any board I sole-moderated would soon be whittled down to a single poster.

Here's a real question - is this film called LEON or THE PROFESSIONAL? I've heard it referred to by both titles. Although when I saw it I'm pretty sure it was titled THE PROFESSIONAL. I know it's not based on a foreign film or something, is it?

FinderWolf
17:12 / 19.04.04
Also, how is it that Natalie Portman's acting is so good here yet she's been pretty bad and wooden in pretty much everything besides LEON/THE PROFESSIONAL and her small bit in BEAUTIFUL GIRLS?

PatrickMM
20:17 / 19.04.04
I believe it was originally called Leon, but was retitled The Professional when released here in America. My DVD has it listed as Leon: The Professional. But, I'm pretty sure the intended title was Leon.

The Strobe
20:34 / 19.04.04
That's right. In the US, it's called "The Professional". Which is a shit title. In Europe it's called "Leon". And everywhere else, it varies, though both with a colon is not unknown.
