I'm pretty sure Chad's original post is a transcription of a list to be found in a recent magazine - not certain but it may have been Empire.

The idea's pretty shit anyway because the best drawn characters in films are often not the whizz-bang "look at this guy! crazy!" stand-out ones who will always end up dominating lists like this...

A number of these characters, like Robin Hood and Gollum, aren't strictly speaking "film characters" in the same sense as others. Darth Vader was invented for movies. Gollum was created by Tolkien for a book. Robin Hood has been part of folk tradition for centuries. I mean, are we counting Aileen Wuornos as a "film character" now?
