Conference: The Imaginal Cosmos': Astrology, Divination and the Sacred
2nd-3rd October 2004
University of Kent at Canterbury
This conference aims to explore the nature of divination in relation to sacred knowledge and ritual practice. Thus it seeks to locate such practices within a framework of Religious Studies. Astrology and divination challenge our modern worldviews, and they tend to be relegated to the 'new-ageism' or ‘pseudo-science’. What is the truth of astrology and divination -- and of the cosmologies they depend on? We can begin by looking at symbolic imagination whose roots go back to ancient metaphysical philosophy.
