so, just out of curiousity:

i was looking into the roots of this phrase and the general concensus seems to be that it probably can't be traced back to any particular source, much less Hassan-i Sabbah. however, i was wondering if anyone could tell me (presupposing that it was said by Sabbah), (a) what language it would have been in, (b) what the phrase would be translated most faithfully back into the original language, and (c) if there is any kind of web-based resource that i could use to see the phrase in it's original alphabet, as opposed to just a transliteration.

i'm sorry if this isn't considered appropriate for the temple, it just seemed like the most likely place for an answer. thanks in advance.

The phrase in question is an English translation of an Arabic statement. Another translation of the same statement may be "Believe nothing - dare all on Earth there is no reckoning" and there are probably various others floating around. Sources vary.

Transliterations from English-to-Arabic tend to be messy and I'm not an Arabic speaker, so I'm not going to be too useful. More information on Arabic script may be found at http://www.omniglot.com/writing/arabic.htm.

It's either that, or it's just Will Burroughs having a go with everyone. After all, nothing is true.

There exists huge glops of info about the said statement and the Hashishin on chaosgroups@yahoo - also juxtaposed with info on Iraq atrocities and Sufism and Yezidis.

im not really sure where you can find chaosgroups@yahoo if there is a group, but you can go to the yahoo web page and there is a link on it for "groups" where you can search through the thousand or so groups out there centered around chaos.

you might also want to go to google and under the group search check out alt.magick alt.discordian or search around for some other usenet groups you might be into.

anyway hope that kinda helps answer your question.
