Going through my albums recently I relistened to the C.T.D.'s first two albums and really enjoyed them. Not heard them in 6 years but they're still great albums. Bought 'Give yourself a hand' as a result and the continuing metamorphosis of the band has warped them almost beyond recognition from the 'Mmm mmm mmm mmm' people. Probably a good thing that they've moved on but the first couple of albums were instantly gettable, this has taken me a couple of listens and I'm not sure I really like it.

So, any comments and does any of what I've said make sense?

I still love their first album... to me, they dropped rather fast after that, as many folk-y bands who get famous do (e.g. Spirit of the West). "We're selling albums? Quick! Drop the mandolin! Go electric! Start sucking!"

...or it's just a natural change in the band. Moving from Winnipeg to Harlem will do that. 'The Ghosts That Haunt Me' rocks all the same...

I think they deserve respect for "God Shuffled His Feet" alone. "Afternoons and Coffespoons" is also excellent. The rest of that album got a bit samey for me, and I've not paid them much attention since.

At any rate, they're three-hit wonders at least.

What a coincidence, I was just reminiscing about this band the other night. Afternoons & Coffeespoons was one of the brightest colours of my golden musical summer of 1994, and everyone laughed when I did my note-perfect impersonation of the singer as well.

Note-perfect I tell you!!!

Declined due to alcoholism.

I like the first three albums, always a bit hit and miss.
