Intro to NLP?

I'm sure that this is ground that's been covered many times before, but I just searched the archives and didn't come up with anything for either "NLP" or "neurolinguistic" (which is odd, since I think I've done the same search before and found something...).

Anyway, does anyone have links to old NLP threads, or to some decent online resources?

NLP is something I'm interested in learning more about, but most of what I've found through search engines have been commercial sites selling subscriptions to courses and the like -- is there a way to find out more without shelling out the $$? Or are the creators of NLP running it like a Scientology thing where you are supposed to join up to advance?

Thanks!

There seems to be a ton of NLP stuff on Soulseek, PDFs and audio files. I'd recommend starting with "The Structure Of Magic".

Looks as if I'll have to join Soulseek as I'm quite interested in NLP but don't want to fork out huge dosh for things I may discard. Cheers.

Thanks for the suggestion - I've found a couple good .pdf's already (not on soulseek, though - I'm at work). I snagged Structure of Magic II, but I'm still looking for I.

From the quick scan of the texts I've got already, this looks like it will prove very interesting.

Off to read (while presenting the appearance of productive labor),

Structure of Magic 1 and 2 are excellent

do a websearch for Robert Dilts

his home page has loads of articles that deal with the development and the application of various NLP techniques

not beginner stuff but Dilts is a good enough teacher to make it reasonably user friendly

Like most things, I'm afraid you probably won't get a huge amount out of reading NLP. It really is 100% experiential, and you won't get that without practising with different people and having them practise on you. The majority of it can't be learned alone, unless all you're looking for is some half-formed self help techniques which will break down when your experience doesn'tr conform to the structure of the exercise.

Seth: I figured as much, but I was mainly looking for some basic information about NLP in order to decide for myself whether it's something I want to pursue in more depth (because while some of the things I've heard here on the 'lith sounded interesting, I've been very put off by the business-speak marketing of a lot of the books and sites). I'm about half-way through Frogs to Princes right now, and I think it's safe to say I've "taken the bait."

In your (or anyone here's) experience, is it possible (read: likely) to make any significant headway experiencing/working NLP with a "study group" of people who are all reading and learning together, or does this really call for some kind of Master Practitioner instructor? Finances being what they are...

I'm almost halfway through the Master Practitioner certification at the moment, and as much as it pains me to say it I think it's by far the best way to learn. You pay through the nose and get marketed to left, right and centre, but I grudgingly have to say that you get what you pay for, especially if you put in a lot of work between modules.
