America after 30 years of docile chilling has gone through the computer revoluntion and yet its 'Mighty Military Might' has gone through a non progressive change.

Since there was no war, none of the new weaponary could be deployed or assessed in a real life scenario. So when there is a need, a need ...needs to be created..right?

So along comes Iraq giving America the ideal test environment to flex out its muscles

anyone agree??

By the way, this notion is seperate to the case of:

Was this about Oil or
Mr S Hussein is a gross failure being a member of the human race.
or even if the war was actually pre-meditated

Quite simply, I just want to know ..do you think the war was for any other reasons than the obvious ones being sold to us through our reliable, unbiased and trust worthy media system which is completely independant of any malice or censoring of any type from any agency..at all??

More of a Switchboard topic, this.

Wired had an article last month about computer games that use real scenarios for war games, and are updated when there is news, so in some way they are trying out the "new toys", or maybe they are the new toys. So maybe the best (and more peaceful) place to play is simply inside the computer.

Apoloogies about not placing this in switchboard. New member. And to answer the 'Docile Chilling' remark. It simply outlines the stealth and the subtlty with which America has gone from the 'Land of the Free' to the 'Land of the Sheep' No pun and or such intended.

Anyway thank you for reading my misplaced posting.
Warmest regards

If you don't like it, you can just move to Canada, hippie! Go eat a salad.

Well, it is only stealth and subtlety if you happen to live in a country which wasn't being bombed or otherwise subject to military attack by America during the last thirty years. Not, for example, Iraq, which was being bombed on a daily basis by both American and UK forces between 1991 and the recent war. I'd also take issue with the idea that America was the Land of the Free in 1974 (two years after the arrest and trial of Angela Davis, for example).

Or, you know, read a paper.

topic derailing aside, I think it's an interesting subject... the US military is always looking for its next war, to get new weapons contracts for Lockheed, et al. They must have figured out long ago that in order to be one step ahead of any other country regarding weaponry and technology, they need to be in a constant state of war, and if there's no conflict, create it so they can keep making weapons...
What do you think?

...ideally for that would probably be another cold war. Massive budget with resulting toys, but without the political costs of fighting wars with American soldiers. I'm sure if September 11th didn't happen, the White House would be trying to set up that kind of conflict with Korea or China...
