Optical observation of "supernatural" beings?

Has anyone had honest to goodness optical observations of gods spirits extraterestrials demons ect? I am mostly interested in non psychoactive/hallucinogenic influenced/induced visions. I am not trying to belittle psychoactives or cast their use as spiritual tools into speculation, i am just interested in peoples personal unifluenced observations.

i read a grant morrison interview somewhere on the web where he described an experience he had as a youth of a lion that he saw as well as felt one morning when waking( i think that is what it said anyway, my memory does have a tendancy to be flawed). Anyone have any similar experiences?

Yeah, I've seen my HGA (whatever that means, convenient shorthand for something I don't really understand). He came to my room one night, and manifested visually enough for me to know he was there.

I've seen the angels as described at the start of Ezekiel, but that was specifically during an NLP exercise where I relived a specific memory with different perceptual filters. I definitely saw them in my visual field, and didn't choose to consciously conjure the image. Hard to describe, but they were pretty fucking wild. As in *untame.*

Yes - first time was a complete surprise, knocked me for six. I'd say that at that time it represented my faith in the so-called biogram, that it was a specific godform to banish another experience I went through. Given enough power and energy anything could happen to fuse with our lowest dimensions. I've seen ghosts and shadowforms. I sometimes like to adopt the idea of the Holographic Multiverse, and sometimes not. Astrally it's different, but through deep delta I've came across yidams/godforms that you could adopt for a while if you can deal with them.
And if you believe in Zos/Kia dualisms?! Tulpa creation and all that.

Yes, and I have never had a psychoactive/hallucinogenic influenced/induced vision of a supernatural being.

Well I've seen all manner of things to hordes of demons roiling around the edge of a goetic circle, to kelpies & hags & so forth - but I dunno if I'd call it "optical observation" (sounds so detached, like I'm viewing them through the telescopic sight of my trusty Lee-Enfield, or something). Doesn't everyone who does magic-stuff see these folk?

i have had times when i would say i felt a presence or could visulaize things although not see them with my normal vision. this was not meant to be another lame "if magick is real why can't i throw fireballs?" post, it is just that i'm new to this whole bit and am interested in comparing my experiences with those of others.

Sensory Exercises

I think this description from the article above aptly describes how 'magical vision' comes about:

I have found that if people consciously pursue the development of 'psychic abilities' they are often inhibited by their own expectations of what they think they should be hearing or seeing. There is an old story of a young man who read a book on the auras of trees, and the different colour combinations of different species. He subsequently spent a great deal of time trying to 'concentrate' on seeing the auras of trees, alas with no result. One day, he considered a Rowan tree, and wondered what the aura of this tree would look like, if he could only see it ... he thought that the Rowan would have a kind of golden, russet-brown aura, perhaps with yellowish edges.... It was during this consideration that our hero realised that seeing auras was not merely a case of seeing something physical and tangible, but of opening one's mind to impressions that one might usually ignore or dismiss as unimportant.

I've seen stuff in dreams and "on the astral" ie in my minds eye. I've sometimes had this leap out and happen spontaneously ie. elements of the ritual or offerings come alive for me and minds eye vision is superimposed over the top of physical reality. I think a lot of magick is about opening yourself up to these impressions and other intuitive phenomena.

Don't know if this counts, but I've had three dreams in which I have undeniably been *in* the dream. This is different from lucidity, which I've only had once (and THAT's a head trip). All three of these dreams were, in essence, alternate waking states. I felt and heard and saw them and woke up not knowing what happened but with an undeniable conviction that SOMETHING had. Interestingly two of them involved war, one a pseudo-Vietnam and one very concretely World War II.
Within these I have seen people and objects, and the most recent one (two Christmases ago) I interacted with an entity that I can still 'feel' if I think about it.

okay... this is barbesynch again. Just having an online conversation with a friend about what I believe to be a bone fide contact I had at the weekend. Not even read the thread yet - dunno why this still surprises me, but keep reading my mind anyway Barbelith!

I'll read the thread before any further comment. Not sure if I'm supposed to discuss it; not for fear of derision or because it was under the influence, but in that old tight-lipped mage idiom. The fact that this thread popped up seems to weigh in favour of spilling the beans.

I generally get a lot more extra-sensory-type feeling than actual visual confirmation. I know some people that get really good visual confirmation, and others that get nearly auditory stuff.

Mainly my visual impressions are towards that weird...well, ok. You know how your thoughts are sort of a voice in your head? Ok. Now try visualizing something. You get the same sort of almost-perception. Your eyes don't register it, but if you think really clearly you KNOW that you're seeing it? That's what my visual impressions of spirits are generally like. If I'm getting a really strong vibe off something, I can normally close my eyes and get a decent visual impression off it.

AN example of this is from a recent ritual with the University of Toronto Pagan "Club". I'd somewhat mistankenly decided that going to their ritual (I can't remember what holiday it was) would be cool, at least to observe. Well, for the part relevant to this thread, they invoked Brigid and several other powers. Now, we were in a "multi-faith" chapel that had what I had at first thought was a throne/big fricking chair at the end of the room behind the altar. When they called Brigid I could *feel* her responding. And, closing by eyes, I got a distinct impression of some sort of female figure sitting in the "throne" behind the altar. Of course, the experience itself was not exactly a pleasent one, and I found out that Brigid and I don't really get along (she's really really pushy), but that's irrelevant to this topic.

I think it really does depend on the individual. Like I said, I pick up vibes really easily, but I don't get consistent visual impressions without really concentrating on it. But at the same time I knew one guy who saw them really easily, and I have a friend who's able to hold realtivly detailed conversations, but isn't great at sensing an area or being's "vibe/aura/energy/whatever".

In most cases, its impressions of other input filtered through the visual for me. But there have been a couple of outright visuals. Such as, "who is that old woman standing in the hall? oh wait, she's gone..." I've seen a number of the dead that way outright, turning around and seeing them just standing there suddenly, only to disappear when I focused more of my attention on trying to figure out what the hell I was looking at. Right slip of mind for it, and all that. Corner of the eye stuff. Though there was a couple where I woke half asleep and saw them, only to fade as my mind focused. Then there was the time I spotted the house fairy. Little blob of light just floating in the air, like reflected sunshine, then it zipped off, and there just wasn't anything that light could have been reflecting off of in the area. Those are always the wierdest ones, cause I never expect to actually see anything, so much as interpret or perceive on the astral level. Always catches me a bit off guard.

I sometimes get black or white 'phosphenes' on my retina , and I often interpret it as a positive or negative signal, but from what I don't know. It can happen a few times a day. I think I've seen a full on spectral image at least once, but it was witnessed upon awakening from sleep, and I have chosen recently to discount these. Although there are meaningful hallucinations, and conversations that can be had, there is no proof that its not just all in your head. The question thats interesitng to me is: Why does it keep on happening? Because this suggests a fault or a process going on that we don't really understand(Or that we're not supposed to.)

well, quick note on the psychedelics
Bards description of seeing but not physically with the eye is the nature of psychedelic encounters with the great being of the cosmos

sometimes sleep paralysis is accompanied by hallucinations/visions that bleed over from the collective unconscious. Once I started to wake up ( and basically at this point fully denied the existence of the grey aliens of TV) and not realizing that I was not really FULLY awake, I found myself paralyzed with aliens talking to me telepathically.. So just imagine the shock (an infinite understatement) of an atheist having a mystical experience
I remember thinking NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
not because i suspected any harm but because I did not want them to be real that i had denied for so long...
but it makes sense in light of other experiences and history that they have their own kind of spiritual or psychic existence, but not as little green men with anal probes

after i actually woke up i just SAT
no desire to either sleep or stand up
weirded OUT hahahahah

thanks for the comments all. I just remebered today that about a year ago i had a strange and very visual encounter and with the recovered memory felt really stupid having asked the question "do you ever see magic stuff?" just goes to show how easy it is for the "normal" side of my mind to block out the abnormal experiences that did not fit into my mindset.

on a side note i wonder if any of you have had experiences with similar entities/apparitions. it appeared as a large male featured human head probably about the size of a medium beachball and made of blue and green "energy" with insect mandibles coming from it's mouth. this was not something i attempted to contact in a working, just something that flew into my room one night while reading and i assume either flew out or disapeared while i hid under the covers.

My honest-to-goodness, undeniable sighting came when I was 14 and away at summer camp in MA. It was the second night of camp, and a friend and I were alone in the camp theater, he playing the piano and me holding up a support beam on the stage, which was lit, though the lights in the rest of the theater were off. Nevertheless, I could see to the back of the theater thanks to the ambient illumination. At one point I lazily swung my head to the left toward the stone fireplace, and saw

IT.

It was roughly human proportioned, though it was like someone carved a human shape out of fog. Its arms were just slightly outstretched in front of it, and it was walking at an angle away from me, directly through rows of benches. I stared at it for maybe 10 seconds, the finally found my voice and said to my friend, who'd had his back to the whole thing, "Uhh, I don't think we're alone in here." I turned to look at him and then turned back, but of course it was gone.

The only analogous experience I've had as an adult I had with the aide of Lithers, who simultaneously cast karma boosters for me while I was interviewing for a great job, which I went on to get over 600 competitors. This was what could only be magic mirror pouring through a window, travelling on a shaft of light. It was such a bizarre experience that defied description (and still does) that for a long time thereafter I blocked it out of my memory, despite being certain that magick had helped get me that gig. Whether or not magic mirror can be identified as an entity or being is of some debate, but nevertheless, it was there.

I've had my fair share of encounters.

1. Every once in a while, I see physical shadows - ones with shape and definition - walking around my house or just idling. They don't do anything but look at me, I swear one of them beckoned for me - it was standing in the doorway to my garage.

2. An apparation of a girl in a yellow dress has appeared in my house recently. She goes away after only a few seconds, so I don't know any details.

If anybody has had similar experiences, drop me a line.

Heh, that may be a factor. But I also get that paranoid feeling that one usually gets when there are "entities" around. But I don't often get bad vibes, except at the late hours of night.

Bad vibes at night... yeah. Does that mean anything, or is it just a paranoid reaction to the presence of the unknown?

Reason I'm asking is that my husband and I bought this house two years ago and we both get the distinct impression that there's something there, though we've never "seen" anything. When we first moved in there were some incidents where things seemed to move around on their own whilst we were out, but that has long since ceased. Hubby has the impression of a little girl hanging around. We've both taken psychedelics in the house and it feels friendly; no weirdness when we're meditating or anything... but for some reason I just get creeped out late at night and hide under the covers a lot...

Bad vibes, like hostility.
Of course, where I live is considered to have been holy land at one point - so maybe there is a third party of spirits (protectors??).

I am new to this, how many times do I say that!
I have seen ghosts before, but they weren't people shaped, perhaps when ghosts float its more convinient to be not people shaped, they were more like whisps of smoke or fog, drifting, but not aimlessly, they were certainly going somewhere. They were pale blue-purple, and very beautiful if I may say so

I know they were ghosts or some sort of spirit because my sister found an article about them, I was shocked to see them but they weren't scary to look at, and they most certainly didn't try to harm me, infact they dissapated quickly, perhaps they wanted privacy!

Oh and I have seen a fire elemental in someones house, it wasn't a trick of the light and it moved, (kinda like an fiery sphere) down their corridor in the middle of it, and turned the corner. I do not think elementals are evil as some people beleive, you cannot class things like fire and water as evil as they are not concious and therefore not aware of what they do. I beleive this is the same for elemental spirits.

I've seen Gods and spirits but in a strange way it was like they were layered over the real world, y'know? Hard to explain, really, but no, I haven't seen them in the crystal clear, "real" way that I can see this keyboard.

I have seen what appeared to be perhaps a bright spotlight (In the middle of the night). Upon moving in an arc around it, I discovered that there was seemingly no source to the light. At that point I decided it would be best if I left quickly.
