Brighton Suit Confusion

I've posted about this in Policy and Conversation before, but I think I need to mention it again.

There is something up with the website or w/ my mates' PCs. Basically, the site won't allow users, other than the last to log in, access to the site:

- Site remembers Fraelyboyce

- Site allows new user to log out

- New user attempts to log in, but always logs in as Fraelyboyce.

It's not just the Boyce's computer, it's Gambit's, too.

And to make it weirder, sometimes it's fine - you can log in and out till yr heart's content.

It's driving me completely mad, esp because the Twart seems to be using my suit all the time at the moment AND I REALLY DON'T WANT HIM TO (yeah, yeah, of course I'll tell him to stop, but better to be safe than sorry....).

So, back to the beginning. Is it the site's programming? Is it the PCs I'm using? Is it a little bit of both?

Can anything be done that doesn't involve logging off the internet and deleting cookies? Every time I do it someone at the Boyce's gets irritated that I'm fucking up their downloads.

Please help me get this sorted.

Seriously, I wonder if this is a regional thing. I was once spending a weekend with another Barbeloid down in that fair city and when I logged them off so as to sign in as myself it would automatically log them back in, I couldn't even get the box where I put my user name and password.

Just do what I did. Kill them, and make a suit out of their skin (although, due to relative sizes I made a small carry-on suitcase out of their skin).

I know this might be time consuming, but you could just delete the barbelith cookie, by going into the temporary internet files folder, sorting the files in it by name, and finding the one called "Cookie:[your login name]@www.barbelith.com". (Um, I am silly in the ways of computers, so please, if this is somehow compromising site security, go ahead and delete this. Also, if this is not compromising site security, and I'm silly for thinking it is, please don't make fun. :P )

Hopefully that will solve your problem without ruining anyone's downloads.

What kind of pooter ya running, Spaliance? If it's one that supports multiple users, like Windows XP, a solution might be to set up your own username and log in under that. That way, you should get a clean sheet and the only cookies you kill in the future will be your own.

Does it happen on any other sites, Runce, or just Barbelith?

Have you tried downloading one of those Internet Cleaner doobries and wiping the slate clean? Then, next time you log in throguh the newly-scrubbed Internet Explorer, make sure you select 'no' on the "Do you want Windows to remember this password" message.

Fraely Boyce here.

This troublesome PC is running windows 98. It seems to help if you log out, go somewhere else, come back and log in again. Sometimes you have to do this a few times.

I've witnessed the same problem on the mac - but the problem appears to be the browser internet explorer - one work-around solution could be to use different browsers for different users...

See above re the cookies thing. It seems I ALWAYS have to delete the cookies, and my mate who spends every waking hour downloading music really hates me signing off in order to do it.

Thanks for the help, guys.

So just to clarify... who's who, now?

You don't have to delete *all* the cookies, just the Barbelith cookie, as described above. This should not hamper file downloading at all...

And I'm pretty sure Barbelith only leaves the one cookie. A little cookie. A fortune cookie.

It doesn't seem to work unless I log off the internet, haus - something, for whatever reason (and however "wrong" he is), my mate really doesn't like. And, yeah, I knew it was just the Barbelith cookies.

Same muthafucking problem... Here I am locked into Fraely's suit....AGAIN.

Log off the Internet? Are you sure? Have you tried closing Internet Explorer (or proper browser), deleting the cookie and then reopening your browser?

Now Spali, old chum, old boy, you need to think- what would I do if I was stuck in Fraely's body, then use his suit in the same way.

If I was in someone else's body I'd get a really embarrassing tattoo.

You shouldn't delete the Barbelith cookie unless you're actually not using Barbelith at the time. If you close any windows with Barbelith in them, delete the individual cookies, then reload www.barbelith.com, that should work. I think.

Yes, Bruthroar, I believe Fridge is onto something. I can delete the Barbycookie while online, but only if I close the website. Try running The Lith through Explorer as opposed to AOL.

It seems it is possible to log out, but I just don't have the magic touch. I tried what Fraely advised and attempted the log in/log out thing many, many times - I even went to other sites as he advised - but....nothing. And then that scunt gets on, checks his email, returns, and, hey ho! everything's fine!

YARG!

I just don't get it.

But, anyway, thanks for all he advice people.

Oh, BTW, Flowers, I don't think it IS a regional thing - everything's normal on my bro's computer, and he lives just down the road from Fraely's yard.

Have you tried the cookie thing?

Perhaps Fraely's hotmail account somehow changes things. Try getting a hotmail account, and try logging on to it before you log on to the 'lith.

Why am I talking to you about this online?
