The thing is, when it's a talky issue, you'll get a bunch of Barbeloids grouching about how "comics just aren't for kids anymore", and when it's an action issue you'll get another bunch of 'Lithers complaining about lack of substance.... ARGH! Meself, I tend to think Millar really gets the balance right. The book reads very well indeed in trade form. Nice flow.

Still got the grouch about the "oh look, we've met the aliens and heard their plan!" and then POW! WHAM! "Whoops, everything's gone wrong for the aliens and they have to destroy the planet!"

methinks you're on the money about the France bit, celebrity.

I love graphic violence too. I prefer an issue full of it to the never ending talking heads ones.

and, as I said, these 13 issues have been a fun read. the problem with Marvel comics - apart from being unambitious of late - is that most of them read better on trades, which means not much happens in 22 pages. the balance would be better if there were not full issues of beating up and full issues of dragging talktalk, but both combined.

the way it's being done almost devalues completely the money spent on the singles. readers don't buy a superhero single issue to see nothing actually happening.

See, personally I don't think the talk drags (I do, however, think it suffers from clunky over-wordiness and problems with tenses, but that's another matter), but different strokes for different folks.

And, scanning the series, there's quite a lot of actiontalking (or however else you want to describe the combination of elements in one ish).

Oh, and, finally, I 100% agree with celeb re the France thing. It's definitely there to highlight in big luminous crayon the fact that Millar intended the line as a joke.

I fucking love well executed fighty justice. Unashamedly.

That's not to say I always love Mark Millar, however.

But no-one does the former as well as the latter, hein?

'Strue.

Well, Hitchboss, anyway.

There are no better words for me to echo the sentiment, though.

Well, historically I would disagree. Many have done fighty justice at least as well as Millar, but these days...

Ya know, thinking about it, who the fuck else even does fighty justice these days?

Suppose Bendis has dipped his toes, and he promises big warmanship from the Avengers. We will see.

Just on the whole "France" line, I reckon it makes plenty sence that someone as hokey as the Cap would use the same line a zillion times.
Anyone got a date on the trade?

He's Cajun. We have to forgive him his failings with the English Language.

A few members of the action brotherhood:

Miller

Oh yeah, let's not forget the master, Mr Chuck Dixon

Not sure that Ennis has ever blown me away with an action comic, although I have laughed much.

/the 'French' line was only funny to Millar and probably Chuck Dixon/pro-Bush readers alike./

No.

My favorite line:

"Naked guy's the stupid one here, naked guy!!"

And the little moment with Cap throwing up at all the chaos and destruction (he's probably hopped up on super-soldier adrealine) after the fight ends was nice and humanizing, I thought. "Just give me a minute here, solider."
