No good with pix, i'm afraid, so check the linkylinky to some images of Selfridges branding.

Specifically the carrier bags. Simple, vibrant, stylish. AND, bloody strong, I have one, I've had it for a couple of years, and it holds about as much as I can comfortably carry in a carrier.

Bloody good design.

I really love Milla Jovovich's dress. I think the design is awesome.

The DUKW (a.k.a. 'The Duck'):

In water
On land

Why I love it:

- It's a slim, narrow, horizontal oblong. Proportions-wise, it's related to the chocolate bar (small), the cigarette, the cartoon bone, the wooden pencil case and the packet of biros. It looks like it would feel nice to handle; a good solid weight placed across the palm of your hand (wheels either side), slim enough to hook your thumb over.

- Look at the shape of the front! (see first pic) That's sculpture, that is. All the right shapes at all the right angles, combined with exactly the right amount of confusing messiness. Yum.

- It looks like you could paint it with a tin of household gloss that had been sitting in your grandad's shed for 20 years and it wouldn't bother it one bit.

- It's a military vehicle with civilian uses. Butch but friendly.

DELTICS!:

Deltic 1

Deltic 2

Deltic 3

Several things that press my buttons, one of them being the slightly curved edges. I'm sure that slightly curved metal surfaces look thicker than flat, angular ones, but I've no idea why. And the lack of windows along the side give you the impression that the whole vehicle is entirely solid, or at least totally packed with, um, stuff.

"When studied a Deltic has a beautiful symmetry to its design. Having two engines the exterior number 1 and 2 ends are hard to differentiate. Unlike many other classic English Electric designs the cab had two tear shaped front windows contributing to the impression of power that the class exude."

What era Ducatti is that, toksik? It looks seriously like late 70s/80s Moto Guzzi type stuff, from what I remember - the shape of the front fairing in particular, and that long, sledlike top chassis with an engine and wheels bolted underneath.

Ducatti do make beautiful things.

For the most part, these are just favorite things...although the Technics sl1200mkII's are about as perfect a meeting of form and function as I can think of.

The drink may taste like battery acid whatever you drink it from, but I still think the glass coke bottles are a brilliant piece of design.
