Backlash and sloppiness

I contracted a cold the other night and my sinuses feel like a desert. But that didn't stop from running a ritual last night. I spent some time thinking about it and planning it out, writing out the prayer/charge and sigilizing it, putting on some trancey inspiring music, etc. Then the ritual: casting the circle, calling the corners, lighting incense, invoking the appropriate spirits, firing the sigil, then meditating and 'cooling down' for a bit before closing the circle. This all took under an hour.

Later I'm on the phone with my girlfriend - we've been very strange and ambiguous lately - and we're having an unexpectedly engaging, dynamic conversation. The apartment feels strange, lots of activity outside or in the halls, and an edgy feeling I've come to associate with latent energy. Out of nowhere I capsize a mug of BOILING HOT tea I'm holding, all over my left side and the end of my bed. The results were like very bad sunburn, including welts. Never had that happen before. In explaining this on the phone, my girlfriend's reaction was "How hot WAS that?!"

Direct connection? Possibly none. Possibly just excess energy running through my hand muscles, giving them a little twitch. In the madman view of things, though, I neither banished nor meditated before going into the ritual. I was pumped from days of heavy activity and no energetic release. I was firing a challenging, personally transformative sigil that I've been skirting around for months. And it's the Year of the Monkey, tricky little bugger that he is. Odd blend of positive and negative effects: the conversation was great, the burns were bad, the following sleep was deep and resting, the cold is worse, the day so far is a good one...

Occult backlash or accident-prone me? And should one take more time with rituals? I have found in personal experience that the more ceremony one puts in the better things go. But I'm also frequently impatient.

Occult backlash or accident-prone me?

is there a difference? isn't everything interconnected? is there really a difference between occult causation and regular causation?

in any case, even if you were to say for the sake of argument that it was somehow unrelated, it surely couldn't hurt to avoid sidestepping precautions you normally consider important in the future.

If it had happened to me, I'd blame it on my clumsyness..I'm always stumbling into stuff
Maybe you were just too excited by the conversation...who knows..it may mean nothing or everything...

Without raising the spectre of occult backlash, it is always possible (as you suggest) that the magickal working just left you "hyped up" with nervous energy that made you more "twitchy" and thereby more accident-prone. I wouldn't worry too much about it, except to take note of it and any other similar post-ritual effects. If a pattern develops, then you can decide what to do about it. Maybe a good run, or some other form of workout (maybe a good shag) would be useful to help burn off excess post-ritual tension, or brief immersion in some mindless popular entertainment -- something that doesn't engage your "higher sensibilites" at all. I personally find that nothing grounds me after a strenuous ritual like cheap, poorly-produced corporate porn -- which I find particularly draining under normal circumstances. Anything to burn off the twitchies.

You also might want to think hard about doing rituals when you're sick (or overtired), as you'll just be putting more strain on your already-compromised self. Again, just keep track of your after-effects and see what you turn up.

Of course, the bottom line is: be careful with hot liquids.

My rule of thumb: If you get an instant intuitive flash of information which feels like a certainty when it hits (even if you start doubting it afterward), then it's likely related. If you have an accident, and while you're dealing with the aftermath you think, "Huh... could that have been related to X?" then it's not.

One of the many reasons I do not drink liquids that heat the ceramic container to the point I cannot grasp it directly.

That said, I'd blame weakened muscles and war-time clumsiness. Eat your spinach and command your internal first infantry to fight harder against the damned dirty alien intruders.

Yesterday after mediating I was getting lots of cramps and pains and the energy within me was incredible. I had to look at a kundalini book of mine's for guidance. I managed to center myself eventualy in the morning by a banishing rite - serves me right for acting sloppy and ignoring that one - doh!!!! I myself have came to the opininion that alot of supposed psychic attacks that we like to imagine we bring on ourselves.
