I contracted a cold the other night and my sinuses feel like a desert. But that didn't stop from running a ritual last night. I spent some time thinking about it and planning it out, writing out the prayer/charge and sigilizing it, putting on some trancey inspiring music, etc. Then the ritual: casting the circle, calling the corners, lighting incense, invoking the appropriate spirits, firing the sigil, then meditating and 'cooling down' for a bit before closing the circle. This all took under an hour.
Later I'm on the phone with my girlfriend - we've been very strange and ambiguous lately - and we're having an unexpectedly engaging, dynamic conversation. The apartment feels strange, lots of activity outside or in the halls, and an edgy feeling I've come to associate with latent energy. Out of nowhere I capsize a mug of BOILING HOT tea I'm holding, all over my left side and the end of my bed. The results were like very bad sunburn, including welts. Never had that happen before. In explaining this on the phone, my girlfriend's reaction was "How hot WAS that?!"
Direct connection? Possibly none. Possibly just excess energy running through my hand muscles, giving them a little twitch. In the madman view of things, though, I neither banished nor meditated before going into the ritual. I was pumped from days of heavy activity and no energetic release. I was firing a challenging, personally transformative sigil that I've been skirting around for months. And it's the Year of the Monkey, tricky little bugger that he is. Odd blend of positive and negative effects: the conversation was great, the burns were bad, the following sleep was deep and resting, the cold is worse, the day so far is a good one...
Occult backlash or accident-prone me? And should one take more time with rituals? I have found in personal experience that the more ceremony one puts in the better things go. But I'm also frequently impatient. |
