Invisibles inspired magic

I've made this thread to discuss any magical inspiration/work that i get and do relating to The Invisibles. The stuff i'll start putting in this thread shortly will be a lot more evolved and complete than the last Invisibles thread i made when i first came here for the simple reasons that i've got back into magic again after leaving it aside for so long, am understanding Chaos Magic a lot more (even though i'll hopefully be doing Kabballistic, Taoist, Shamanic inspired stuff too and more) and i've now read the full story (at long last) so i won't be just pissing around without any idea of what i'm doing. (when i post here it will mostly be after practical work that i've had results from)

After reading it all i've realized that the work is totally full of ideas and threads that i can follow which could lead to many places and i'll be referring to this just like another magician would a magical text for two reasons :

A) I'm more inclined to Chaos magic so i could create/make/design quite a lot of spells/rituals that have been influenced by Grant's work.

B) I like to use fiction just as much as i like to use anything else for my magic.

I'll just come back to this and post whenever i get results or new ideas and will do my best to keep the posts either balanced between ideas and practical stuff or more on the practical side, because i don't want to start deconstructing the story just to theorise.

So, anything to report?

In terms of Invisibles as hypersigiil designed to remake the people who read it, it certainly worked on me. Trance meditation, DMT, rethinking time, all a result directly or indirectly of reading the series.

Well i've stayed away from the computer for a day and a half or so, read the whole thing from start to finish in the right order and i've had so many things happen it's unreal.

I'd just like to say before i start that if anyone's reading this who hasn't read the whole thing yet and is about to, i strongly advise you not to read this thread until you've read the whole thing yourself.

In other words : spoilers.

Also it's best to experience it for yourself first.

So many things happened to me whilst reading it that i'm lost for words to describe it. It was definately an initiation experience for sure. Just one more thing before i begin : this was how i interpreted some of the experience myself and obviously in no way do i think that any of my ideas are correct, it's just the way a few of the things where shown to me as i read it.

The first thing that hit me was when Jack saw Barbelith after jumping off Canary Wharf with Tom. When he was riding the bike and he saw the planet, i percieved it as Barbelith being Saturn, the first sphere past the abyss in the Kabballah. It was like it was telling me through the book that the Barbelith entity was pure understanding without the duality of the abyss and it had a deep affect on me, as if i was connecting with the hypersigil in a new way, it was pretty amazing.

Then as the story went on i felt like i was getting insights into the art of Sorcery, partly from the story about the history of Lord Fanny, but mostly from the journey of Jim Crow as he went to visit the Scorpion Loa. When he first started leaving our world for the journey i felt like i understood new things about the Nagual's interaction with the Tonal in the way that Jim felt his body solidifying. I'll have to try some work with this though before i say anything else about it just incase i'm off the mark.

The end of book 1 was when things went totally off the scale for me. I was expecting to have to get at least half way through series 2 before i started really feeling the effects but as soon as Miles got into the mind of King Mob and he says : "I'm in his mind, good God look at it!" That's when the combination of the story and the artwork started having an effect. From that point on it was as if the story had pulled me in completely, i was concerned for the characters as i was reading and seeing things unfold, i could 'feel' some things happening to me as they happened, it was as if i'd was on a mild dose of key 17 myself and the initiation had started.

From then on i was seeing the horrors of the Outer Church and the actions of the Invisibles cell appear in my minds eye as i read and my mind was Magic Mirror fighting the Archons and Demons as i read. I get really deep into stories sometimes and on this occasion it was having wild results.

The height of this was when Miss Dwyer got changed by the King of all tears in preperation for going after Kind Mob and Lord Fanny. I could feel my own body changing as she did, mirroring the change, but then as it started getting hairy and some type of negative energy actually started taking advantage of what was happening to my body, Barbelith or Magic Mirror kicked in and gave me an opposing energy that cancelled out the effects of what was happening. This also came to me again as the Archon and Dwyer where heading towards each of their battles and reality grids and nano viruses came up.

Either Barbelith, the Hypersigil, or something else was giving me insights into how a reality grid could be infected and how i could defend myself with certain types of freindly nanobots, astral shields and energies to combat the nanofactories of negative energies.

Reality and fiction had fused at this point. It didn't matter if what was coming into my head wasn't real, what mattered was that some higher energy appeared to be showing me how i could use the things shown to me in my own reality once the spell had worn off. My nagual had me and my tonal just had to do it's best to keep up.

At one point i had a short break from reading for a while and i fired off a sigil for 'greater understanding of magic'. After about five minutes i felt like i was halfway in another plane being shown part of the Tree Of Life and i was seeing Hod and Netzach in such detail that i couldn't believe it. I felt like i went from just above Yesod to Tipareth and was veiwing the whole thing unattached, watching the meeting place of the energy of the two spheres on the Tower path and seeing how they work with each other, it was unexplainable in words to be honest, but the Invisibles had helped my mind to be in this lighter state, removed from Malkuth to the point where i thought that any type of magical work would of had a better chance of positive results and would of manifested a lot faster than usual.

Anyway, after that i carried on reading through and took a walk to get some fresh air for about an hour towards the end of reading it. As i was walking around in the dark i felt like i was floating. It felt like i'd moved into another dimension and reached some type of fifth circuit, hedonic experience from Cybercraft whilst being on some type of new drug that fused acid and ecstacy. I was having insights on how the Invisibles and the Archons where just two sides of the same energy creating a new universe. How in the end maybe we'll all be the one thing that's a perfect balance of creation.

You know how it is those times when you have a Magical experience and you feel like you know the answer to the mystery but you can't put it into words after you've come down? Yeah it was one of them, but totally cool nonetheless.

I felt like i was on E after that for a while and then i went in and read the rest of it and went to sleep shortly after, exhausted from reading for so long and the combined effects of the madness, but it was a great set of experiences that i won't forget. The sheer number of influences in the story and the quality of the storytelling help to bring about magic and i also have an idea that the new language that was spoken by cell 23 contained sigils that furthered the effect of the Hypersigil.

Mind blowing stuff, i'll post back if i do any rituals/invocations that have good results.

I would like to share something with you, if I may... I haven't finished reading Invisibles yet, I've been busy and I've yet to read the last 4 issues of v3...the thing is a couple of days ago, after dinner, I had an urge to read it..I picked up v3 #6 (or #5, I don't remember which).. it was the issue where Edith dies. King Mob says she died at 11:23, and that it was very appropiate,or symbolic, something like that. I started thinking about the mystic meaning of 11 and 23, and when I glanced at my watch it was exactly 11:23!! I was petrified for a couple of minutes...I've never experienced such a "coincidence"..

Have you had similar experiences where fiction overlaps reality (or viceversa)?

Yeah, i have it quite a lot. The last one was yesterday when i went out for a walk, i looked up at the moon and was thinking about Barbelith and then five minutes later the first picture or logo of anything that i'd seen since leaving the house was a picture of a Wolf howling at the Moon on the side of a storage container. It was a lot weirder than it reads and it amazed me at the time, i was walking along for a few seconds with my jaw dropped in amazement which is also something i've been doing a lot now for the last few years.

Jung wrote about it and termed it Synchronicity i think, and every time i've given Magic a break these occurances have always carried on happening regardless of what i've been doing at the time.

Last time I read it, I did it in 4-5 issue bursts on lunch breaks from work, so it took a few days. By the last page of the last issue, I was flying. I had way too much energy and walked around the office smiling for a good few hours. A friend tried to give me some shit about my goofy-ass grin ("Smilin' a little to much for work, ain'tcha?") via email. I shot back a snide e-comment at him, thinking that maybe I should use some of this energy to give him a good-natured zap but not really knowing how. He laughed at my email and immediately went about looking for X-Men movie info on the net. He got the bright idea of just typing in "X-Men.com", which just so happens to be a gay porn site that the company net-sensor didn't pick up. Imagine the rush to the "Quit" command!

Okay, so it wasn't the nicest thing to do, but I didn't mean it.

Just one quick question : how long did/does it take any of you to read through the Invisibles? (i know, obsession with Invisibles noticed, but i'm still new to this.) I'm wondering because i think the faster it's read the better the effects of the hypersigil will be, but obviously only if it's read properly. it took me 27 hours or something like that, and i had 2 hours of sleep inbetween. I'm guessing i could do it in 16 hours if i really pushed myself.

well... I can't say that I've ever tried to read it all in one sitting. I suppose I should one of these days. Usually it takes me about a week, just reading issues here and there.

I've read it shitloads of times though, and each time I've read it, the story's changed and more connections have been made.

I've been reading Invisibles on and off since issue one (I moved around a bit in the late nineties and didn't always have access to a decent comic shop) I could usually read one TPB in a couple of hours.

Lately, my comic diet has consisted of Gaiman's 1602 and Grant's New X-Men TPBs. However, I recently obtained a copy of Anarchy for the Masses: the Disinformation Guide to the Invisibles, and now I'm back in the fold, so to speak.

I've even started dabbling in Chaos Magic. Since most of my previous magical experience was with Wicca, I'm kind of new to it.

Which smart ass will encode The Invisibles into a cabala Tree of Life then? I once came across an entity like the Cyphermen but it had a huge fly's head mask on when it took it off it revealed itself as an octogenerain grey haired chappy not unlike William Hartnell. Dr Who gone bad - stick that in your DMT crack opium pipes. Just as well Spider's eat flies innit. The Invisibles gave reality another kick in the ass - yipee!!!

Haha, yeah, i'll try and keep my Invisibles rantings to this thread anyway, instead of running the risk of pissing people off with different threads about different areas of the whole thing.

As for the Tree Of Life, i'm thinking of putting Ragged Robin at Chesed, King Mob at Geburah and Jack Frost at Tiphareth, stick THAT in your DMT crack smacker opium shmopium pipes!

Anyway, why i'm here : The Harlequinade 3 are fascinating and i'm obsessed with them to an extent. They never get explained that much, which is fine by me because it adds mystery to the whole thing, but can anyone help me out who has insights into who these characters are?

I already know that they are 'One' being, are probably part of the secret masters and that they initiate people and give out the hand of Glory, buuuuuuut, there's more to it than that and i'm trying to work some stuff out.

So, anything, anywhere on the net with words describing the Harlequinade, a Grant Morrison explanation anywhere, a thread in another forum or this forum or whatever, and i'd be really grateful.

I've had a look myself in the comics forum and the bomb and i've got this link to a good thread : The Harlequinade

And i found this in the Bomb about page 15 in issue 7 of series 2 :

[panels 4-6] Pierrot (?) refers Fanny to Columbine as her sister, and then "our" sister. What's the connection? Also, Jerry Cornelius (Pierrot) and Catherine (Columbine) were brother and sister. Another Cornelius tie-in? [BSI] The genders of the Harlequinade are switched; the woman should be Columbine, yet she refers to the man as "Columbine, our sister". - This bit's really interesting : - Also, our female Pierrot speaks like Barbelith ("Replace logic gap strike sentiment feedback").

Replace logic gap strike sentiment feedback...........that must of had some meaning to Grant when he wrote that. I think i'm gonna have to try and get an e-mail to him with a few questions.
