See, some people look at Batman in different lights. "Batman is a badass!" "Batman has fucking awesome toys!" I've never understood why they don't think he can have both going on at once. Stupid putzes.

can i just let off a gobbet of fanboy jzz at the thought of all the morrison comics in 2005? thirty issues of 7Soldiers, six (four?) issues of justice league, three of vimanarama, maybe another three of seaguy. that's nearly one a week for the whole year. fucking ace.

I thought it was interesting that since DC's announcement of SEVEN SOLDIERS, Marvel has announced suddenly that they're reprinting some old Marvel Frankenstein comics. Maybe they saw the "Spawn of Frankenstein" character and thought they had to come out with something Frankenstein-related, like Identity Crisis and (ahem) Identity Disc? I know Marvel is already reprinting Tomb of Dracula and coming out with a Tomb of Drac book, but still, the timing struck me as interesting...

Geoff Johns loves Grant Morrison! I think Johns is a pretty solid and sometimes really strong superhero writer. From a Newsarama interview:

>> JOHNS: Plus, second string characters rule.

>> JOHNS: Grant Morrison is about to launch his Seven Soldiers, which I'm absolutely looking forward to. Years ago, on Animal Man, Grant made a second string, even eighth string, character more compelling than the icons. (See Teen Titans #14 for my nod to Grant's breakthrough work on Animal Man) Through Doom Patrol, Aztek, New X-Men, JLA -- and within that Plastic Man, the Thunderbolt, Hourman, and even Qwisp -- Grant has pushed the envelope on the lost and forgotten concepts, re-inventing many from the ground up and pushing discarded characters into the heroic roles usually reserved for Superman and Batman. That's where I get a lot of my inspiration on Titans and JSA.

only now I got toread the Newsarama article [Grant's interviews being my favourite sport on the internerdweb]. well, the JLA arc looks like a cool way to joke with Millar's ULTIMATES [much like Millar himself did with the Squadron Supreme homage in his Authority's run], so I suspect the Ultramarines will talk A LOT about how cool and clever they are.

the 7 Soldiers mega-project reverberates with that vignette feel I got bits from CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS featuring 'smaller' characters from other universes and I'm too curious to see how Grant'll play with the multi-part/interconnected/oneshot stories.

but at the same time... hate to write this but all these feel all a bit worn to me, namely the JLA thing, as it's indeed very rare for the Grant to come back to books he's already worked in [apart from Batman, and this was a very distinguished situation as ARKHAN ASYLUN became an event].

maybe this is all [apart from the monstrous lengh] warm-up for Grant at DCU, maybe I'm being just a whining reverse-fanboy [and I know I'll consume the 7S series like a crack whore], but - until Übbermensch with Vince Quitely is announced - all the creator-owned Vertigo minis have much more energy and novelty in them.

I mean, SEA GUY. SEA GUY.

god bless.

So the comic you've read is better than the DC ones in your head?

I can empathise.

Grant did say there would be two SS book ends? I'm right in thinking that, aren't I?

reverse-fanboy

Is that like the Reverse-Flash?

yeah.

reverse-fanboy: deffendig the motto 'Vertigo good, DCU bad'. not just for the sake of it, but because it's creator owned, there's more room for creativity, stories that actually end, not everything is PG-13 and superheroes etc etc.

from All The Rage at Silver Bullet Comics: (Rich Johnston's former rumor site, now taken over by someone else)

>> Ever since the San Diego con, I’ve heard rumors that DC’s upcoming line of books featuring Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman might not come to pass. The line, which some have derisively called “Ultimate DC”, does appear to be a direct response to Marvel’s success with the Ultimate titles. However, several sources both inside and outside of DC expressed skepticism as to whether or not it would actually go forward.

Fortunately for DC, the rumors coming out of Wizard World tell another story. Additional details about the first round of titles spread like wildfire among the attending professionals. According to what I’ve heard, the initial creative teams lined up are:

Superman by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely.
Batman by Jeff Loeb and Jim Lee
Wonder Woman by Geoff Johns and Adam Hughes

Right now, the plans seem to call for six to twelve issue arcs by rotating creative teams. At this point, the line is still in an early stage of development and may not even have an official title yet. It also appears that the editorial reigns will run through Wildstorm.

This Has A “World’s Finest” Factor of Seven Out of Ten

Up And Atom

Remember the Atom revival mentioned here a few weeks back? I’ve heard that Grant Morrison may also be writing that title as well. According to the original rumor, DC is looking to make The Atom “a top tier book.” If that’s still the plan, then Morrison would certainly be a good choice for the title.

Additionally, there’s word going around that J. Scott Campbell will be working on a DCU project after he finishes WildSiderz, sometime in 2005.

Skeptical as I am of Ultimate-DC shtick, Morrison/Quitely Superman makes my inner child want to excitedly bust his way out of my sternum with his fists, like punching his way through the time barrier.

It's a good thing. It'd make sense - Morrison's mentioned numerous times in the past year that he'd be doing something 12-issue with Quitely with one of the major DCU characters that he couldn't talk about. hopehope

Even the slight thought of a Morrison/Quitely Superman project actually happening is nigh enough to make me piss myself in flatulent fanboy glee. I am so ashamed.

But if we can't get that, I'd settle for Morrison/Allred Aquaman! Hoo-ah.
