How many of you on here have met yours?

Just curious. How long did it take you to actually get the contact and just how moving was the experience?

I was reading about Crowley and Neuberg meeting Choronzon in Cairo in 1904 and how the demon said it had dominion over the two men's HGA' s

This got me thinking about Angels .....archAngels and all other such contacts.

For example How do you know when it is a genuine contact, is it some inner certainty that you just KNOW that this is right?

Have you met demons?

Herbie Brennan (J H Brennan) has said in his books that he has never met an ULTIMATE evil, like the Christian idea of the Devil but he has met malevolent entities. Most he said have been troublesome but some have actually been quite nasty and had to be banished repeatedly to get rid of their influence. He does say that by the time you meet such entities it is highly likely that you would be sufficiently into your magickal training to be able to deal with it and that only poor unfortunates or mad experimenters would meet such a being when they were un-ready for such an encounter


The Crowley story really interested me. I know Crowley was an un-ashamed self publicist but the story does sound pretty genuine and I heard that after this encounter, some believe he was never the same again

So after all My rambling, I am basically asking three questions


: Have you met your HGA?

2: what other entities have you encountered (is Sandalphon is one of the first I believe you encounter on Tree of Life workings)?


3: What is the nastiest critter you have met to date and what effect did it have on you afterwards?

Joe, your post is certainly intriguing but it's a really touchy area I think. I read it when you originally posted but didn't really know how to respond. For starters, I think it's difficult to definitively state what an entity is, or a demon. Is it something independent from us, something alien or Other? Or is it an aspect of our psyche manifesting with anthropomorphic qualities? Or are the myths which first described these entities so old and fundamental to our species understanding of itself that they exist as real withint the collective noosphere of mind intermediate between meme and diety?

Yeah, I've contacted entities, invoked forces, and crossed paths with wandering prophets and shaman. No, I don't feel I've attained the Conversation of my Holy Guardian Angel. I still feel fairly ignorant of my True Will. I do feel that I receive occasional messages which refine my path and bring me a little closeer to harmony. But, for the sake of my own sanity and my place in society, I remain somewhat agnostic about it all.

Re: HGA's... Technically this conjures up a long degree of formal pathworking in the GD or OTO systems. I don't know that anyone here can say that they've gained Knowledge and Conversation of their HGA through such a path. According to these paths it is merely the voice of your HGA which draws you into and hopefully across the Abyss. Then you can see it face to face. But this isn't the only path and there are many different ways of regarding and expeiencing the notion of a personal angel/entity/future-self/subconscious-complex.

I think it varies from person to person and day to day. Sometimes I feel I've contacted entities, sometimes archetypes, and sometimes I feel I've just got a good imagination and am very capable of visualizing the deities and elementals I've studied and invoked. Crowley himself was never certain whether Aiwass was extraterrestrial or subconscious. And is there even a difference?

I know who mine are. Yes, I have several. I wake up, feet uncovered and cold. I feel calm. I get out of bed and go into the kitchen, where, magically, a nice glass of Ovaltine has been made for me. If this isn't angelic, I don't know what is!!! God bless!

Joe: Yeah, I've had a nasty experience with an entity/aspect of my subconcious, several times in fact. It filled my brain with a lot of nasty stuff, visions, mostly around the theme of viral infection, my body in one of those Matrix-style pods, being eaten alive by cockroaches. My heart was beating far too fast and I almost hyperventalated. When I could actually see it, the entity/whatever looked like a single eye surrounded by tentacles, has anyone else seen or read about a similar thing? Like I say, it was nasty.
The most recent experience involved an incredibly lucid vision of my own death, I don't know how accurate it was but it freaked me out more than any other experience in my life. I was in the kitchen of a house, most likely in America (I could see a pool in the back yard) and two men had broken in, one of whom stabbed me through my left eye with a screwdriver. I felt all of it. The vision ended with me on the floor and the feeling of warm blood spreading out from my eye. This was all incredibly real, more than any dream I've ever had.
Eyes seem to be a recurring theme, does anyone know of any correspondances or special significance eyes have?

Phex and others on here....thankyou so much for sharing your experiences. I know that these are REALLY REALLY intimate and personal matters for you and I hope with sharing these experiences, that somebody on here more knowledgable than myself will be able to help or advise


Phex, may I ask, how did you come about these experiences......was it through meditation or some other Magickal endeavour



Hope somebody here has some advice and help for you

seen mine, asked it to end a partcularly nasty mushroom trip. end it did, all unpleasant emotional and physical symptoms instantly alleviated (about as miraculous as shit can get to my mind), complete with groovy vision of My Best Pal sucking up all the mephisto realm hell visions. significantly, he was all draped in shadow and didn't say a word, which i guess is where the 'knowledge ad conversation' bit comes in, somewhere down the line.

I was plagued by a particularly nasty spook in my younger days. Bugger haunted me for years on end, and when I finally mustered the courage to do something about it... well, it's not cannibalism if you're not the same species, right?

Or maybe I was just a weird kid who had recurring nightmares. I get things confused at times.

One of the first experiences I ever had was contacting a spirit in dream. I used the sigils (10p in the swearbox!). I'd made up an mantra that I was chanting as I went to sleep. I'd convinced myself it was going to take a least a week to work, which I think lead to a lack of "lust of result" 'cos on the third evening ..lo and behold! I'm not going to go into more details here, suffice to say, it was very powerful and scared and stunned me! In retrospect, I wish I'd had the experience/knowledge to deepen the contact.

I want to give a mundane example as well - I often experience myself singing songs that are relevant to a certain situation I'm in. They often seem like an answer to a situation or question that's bugging me. Okay, it's not contact with spirits as seperate entities, but what it shows is that even in "mudane" situations, parts of your subconscious are problem solving and open to communication with you. This can be really moving sometimes. Who's to say that's not your HGA?

I don't know if I have ever had knowlege and conversation of my HGA. I have however had numerous experiences with totem spirits and other entities encountered in deep trance/shamanic journeying. I have also encountered entitys that have scared the living shit out of me. I was recently made aware of the presence of something incredibly malevolent in my life. However I would rather tell you about some of the more uplifting encounters I have had with spirits. When I was visiting Boulder Colorado last summer I met a girl on the Naropa University campus who had hitched to boulder from Sedona AZ. When I first met her she was reading Tarot cards on a picnic table in the smoking area. Arround her neck was a talisman I recognised as the sigil for The Archangel Gabriel, which can be found in the Grimoire of Armadel. when I saw that I asked where she had gotten it, she told me she had shoplifted it from a new age store in Sedona. Without really thinking about what I was saying I saked her if I could have it. Her reply was a stern no. I appologised and we spent a while talking. A few days later I was walking along the main drag in downtown Boulder and saw her a few feet away from me. Half jokingly I shouted "Hey Qabalist girl, gimme your sigil" she walked right up to me and lightly tugged on the talisman and it came off in her hand. when that happened she said "Well you can have it now." She placed the sigil in my hand and after a while more of conversation I returned to the dorm where I was staying. Ever since that day I have worn it arround my neck, and when ever I do the LBRP Gabriel is always the easiest Angel for me to visualize.
This was not the first time I have experienced syncronicitys concerning Gabriel, I have taken them each in turn to be a reminder of the protection and love that God has for evryone. In many of my darkest moments I have found solace in this.

From my admittedly limited experience with goetic demons, I would caution you that these things are extreemly dangerous forces and not to be toyed with. However usually when a magician has an encounter with these things it is at a time when he/she has the knowlege and experience to know what to do.

Joe, if you want to know more about the origins of the HGA concept and how it found its way into contemporary Occult terminology and practice I would suggest you pick up a copy of "The Sacred Magic of Abramalin The Mage" Trans. S.L. MacGregor Mathers. it is a fairly easy book to come across. Search arround at your local Occult shop, it's a fascinating read.

Who? The chick I met in Boulder? Nah, I found out through our conversations that she was a lesbian and had a thing for one of the other girls attending the Summer Writing Program at Naropa. Oh well, that's the way things go.
