I've noticed around town that someone is chalking "Back S.H.I.E.L.D" on lots of walls. Is this some sort of obsessive comic fan, or something else?

Been an awfully long time, but isn't Stan the Man's full phrase something like, "Don't yield -- back S.H.I.E.L.D.!"? Sounds like either a strange post-modern commentary on the American military industrial complex, or that someone swiped it for a band name.

I love comics graffitti, and have been known to write some of my own on sidewalks with chalk.

Mostly because I am a wimp.

>> "Don't yield -- back S.H.I.E.L.D.!"?

That was exactly the phrase.

I mean, that's exactly how Stan worded it in his wonderful "Marvel is the greatest, true believers" sermons, which were rivaled only by Hitler's propaganda machine in their charm and effectiveness (and I mean that in a fun, lighthearted way).

Being in the same town as you, Cube, I've noticed them too - but the thing is, they don't all say "Back S.H.I.E.L.D", some of them say "S.H.I.E.L.D x2" and "get ready for S.H.I.E.L.D" and stuff like that. I'll try to find some actual examples when I'm uptown tomorrow. We figured that it was something structured, as there were so many and they appeared very suddenly. Perhaps a live-action RPG?

I do know that at least one Edinburgh uni student chalked "who is something?" messages all over the town to try and start a buzz for his marketing project. So it could be that. Could be a band, too, but I've no seen any gigs by S.H.I.E.L.D advertised.
