If you're in word just type in (c) and it automatically converts.

...but also - if you try holding down the left Alt key and then type in 184 (from the right hand side numbers not the ones along the top) - that works too. Hola! ©

Flexes Word-fu ...

In that case, in Word, go to the Insert tab and go down to Symbol. It's right there, four down and eight from the left.

Voila!

Bollocks. Eight from the right, I mean.

Or you can just press Alt+Control+C, apparently.

Whee. This is fun.

Sometimes it depends on the font as well... try finding it in say... Zebrawood. But anyway, if you can find a keyboard mapping utility on your system, you can see what the command for it is by holding down modifier keys and seeing what's there.
On the Mac (as it is my reference point) you can boot up key caps and find what characters are available there or go with the often used option-g = ©. ™ (trademark) is option-2 and • (bullet) is option-8...

Held down the alt button and went upward from 184.. looks like a freakin construction set..

Construction set is a good use of words, Adrian. It's a nice, cheap way of constructing a graphical user interface for your non-graphics program. I remember building menus out of ASCII characters like those back in high school. Gods I was a shit programmer then. I'm a little bit better now, but only a little.

Ooh, what about Ç and Ñ, not to mention ç and ñ? How do I get those to come up on an English keyboard?

Cheap. Easy. Cruel.

If using Windows©, a character map can be displayed by going to Start/Programs/System Tools/Character Map. Then you just select the character you want and it gives you the keystrokes for it. They generally consist of alt+ (some random number).

Better yet, you can create your own keystrokes for symbols you use often.

Yeah, but big corporate installs often don't bother with the charmap. Strange thing to miss out, but true.

aus

But if you install Aussie's Arial ©, it blows up your Arial construction set. It's much more lovey, though, and you've still got ©. It also makes l (lower case L) look different to I (capital i), resolving some occasional confusion.

You can also hold down the "ALT" key while typing the numbers "0 1 6 9" no spaces...

if it's for online use try typing the folowing with no spaces:
& # 1 6 9

See . . . ©

MC - try holding right Alt key and the following numbers for those figures - so...
Alt 135 = ç
Alt 128 = Ç
Alt 164 = ñ
Alt 165 = Ñ

In HTML there are lots of much easier codes to remember.

© = ©
™ = ™

etc etc
