I just received a moderation action for a post in the Mothman Movie thread in the Laboratory, despite the fact that I'm not a Lab moderator. Looking at the thread itself, I can't propose any mod actions of my own on it. But I can still agree them. I'm presuming that it's because it used to be in FTV&T.

Not a major problem, I admit, but it does remove some of the transparency from the way moderation works.

I seem to recall there being an issue a while back with moderators not being able to do anything with threads that had been moved into their forums. Was that ever fixed? This seems to be part of the same thing.

(And, completely off-topic, I've just noticed that the names of the moderators in P&H are still running into the 'New Topic' link on the P&H index page, where the problem's been sorted out throughout the rest of the site).

I suspect that's a problem because the moderation action carries with it the ids of the people who can vote upon it wherever it is on the board. Once that moderation action has been resolved it should be quite possible for other people to vote upon it. I'll look into it at the weekend though and see if i can tweak it a bit. W/R/T the other stuff. Don't worry about it. Everything's going to change around here soon and no one's going to like that, so there will be many many more things to complain about than that.

Now you can't just leave it there, Tom.

Mmm. The great taste of vague trepidation.

Ominous...

No, I like that approach. Keeps us on our toes.

Whatever you're planning, Tom, rest assured I'll probably whinge about it. Before realising it was a great idea all along.

I seem to be a Lab moderator occasionally too. Though often, I'm told I 'don't have permisssion.'

I'll swap someone Lab for Comics?

It sounds like fun!

When the change around happens, could we have a more prominent link to the FAQ? With the increased number of new posters, we might end up with every other post being "how do I make a link?" or "how do I post pictures?" otherwise.

Maybe a fixed-state version, 'cause god knows how long the porn links were up before Flux noticed them. Then we could leave the Wiki up to allow people to add to it, updating the fixed version as and when a significant number of alterations have been made.

I will make sure I put in a link to the FAQ somewhere prominent on the pages

Hey, when you go on the comics forum you get a big red "B" in your address line thingy at the top of the screen...

Run! Run! The end times are upon us!

You realise that's been like that for ages, right?

Cheers Tom.

You realise that's been like that for ages, right?

Really? But only on the comics forum?

Ah, but you've changed all the sub-headings on the fora index, though, haven't you?

Might have. Who's askin'?

You've only gone and made room for an extra forum in the spectacle, haven't you?

Hope it's devoted to tights and stockings.

No, it should very obviously be the manicure forum.

You guys have no idea what you're in for. I'd just like to apologise now for the spluttering as your tea hits the screen and for the whiplash you get when exiting the premises in triple quick time.

No, it's obviously going to be the Goth forum. Tom has finally seen the dark: we're going to get a forum dedicated to black nail-varnish, PVC, eyeliner, lavish tattoos'n'piercings, bands no-one other than Goths have heard or, flanging and theoretical bisexuality. Yayyyy!

God you're all going to retch when you see it. I'm actually kind of scared.

Well, I suppose if you get us good and scared enough, then whatever you actually present will be not nearly so bad. Unless of course it is. Just give us some warning so we can be not drinking tea at the time.

I hope it's not porn again. It didn't work in 1999 and it isn't going to work now, Tom.

It's the Harry Potter -LotR crossover Marysue Het Forum, isn't it?

And then Legolas looked in my eyes and he said "Marysue you are so beautiful" and then I killed Voldemort and Harry kissed me and I was like OMG and it was soooo amazing

Yeah, stop intriguing us with these words of the retching and the fear and show us whatcha got.

(How exciting!)

Are you taking requests, Tom? Because if you are I'd like to be able to click on a page which showed you all the most recent postings and to which topics. Thanks in anticipation.

Sax
12:36 / 23.03.04
Oh, and I realise this might not be popular because it only encourages people to post to currently active topics, but perhaps you could just sort it out for me personally. Thanks again.

I'd like that too because I keep clicking on the interestar things to see if they've been updated because I'm surgically attached to the machine today and then they aren't and then I'm like, another wasted 30 seconds gustysigh.

Let me warn people now that there will be some minor losses in functionality. Hopefully we'll have something live for moderators to test on the weekend with regular human beings shortly after that.

Mock all you will. You try and think of a one-line description of something with a highly literal and descriptive name.

It occurs to me that none of the moderators will be online on the weekend, since all of you just use this place to slack out in when you're getting paid to do something useful. Wasters, the whole damn lot of you.
