I lost my job

not a bad thing really, as i was hating it and it was tearing my soul apart.

they have 'not kept me on' after my term anded, AND paid me the notice i was not due, two weeks.. so i am doubly in their debt for not only freeing me but also funding my freedom.

yay them.
if they werent so evil i would laud them further, bu tthey are.

so.
what to do with the time and the money?
where should i go, if anywhere?
a break to europe for a few days could rock, as could flying further afield.

where would you go?

money is unfortunately an object.

Haha, I thought you said "bears" on purpose. I thought that was Norwegian humor.

he he yeah, I thought I should just let it be.. but then I decided to defend the norwegian humor..

Spain's cheap, dude. Beers are London club prices on the main tourist jag, pocket money elsewhere.

Or you could try Eastern europe. You can go to the opera for 50p in Budapest, from what I hear.

heck, i dont necessarily need to travel... i just thought that might be a good idea.

anything at all that i would normally not have time for would do.
learning to drive, maybe?
take a skydiving course and get my license? do i have time?
take a scuba course? is there any point in scotland?
learn a foreign language at the local college?
take a copious amount of halucinogens?
plan a heist?
get back into graffiti and take back my neighbourhood?
submit myself for medical trials?

i could go barbe wandering, but i dont think i'd get much farther than brighton before my liver and wallet formed a suicide pact.

hm.

maybe i should just fix my bike and look for work.

but that's so boring!

Toksik, you know what I would do? I'd bank it in a 'months notice' account, get a crappy temporary job, and do that for maybe April and May.

You see, Summer is coming. Imagine how rubbish you'll feel on a really hot day if you've got a new job by then because you've spent all your cash and now you're stuck, sitting in an sweaty office.

If you save the cash and do temporary work until the Summer, you can ditch the temporary job when you feel like it, and use the money you've saved to have a really good time when it's hot and lovely and gorgeous and summery and fun.

I'm on the same train (though not heading through Europe mind you) as I lost my job on Monday. Got a weeks notice with a check and the share of profits so not too bad. Got Panther installed on the ol' book with some spiffy new titles and can now spend more time here and there and getting freelance finished and continuing on to the next project. Revel in your time but get a job right quick... olulabelle's got the right idea on the summer tip and the cash in hand does bring more options.

Good call, Oulabelle. Look into voluntary work as well mate, some good opportunities in that field.

I never knew you used to be into graf, what did you used to write? I can't tell you what I used to write, it's too embarassing. Were you any good? Good enough to piece, that is.

Of all the things you listed, learning to drive would be the best, IMO. That's if you can find someone you know to teach you, and then maybe just do a few official lessons to make sure you're doing everything by the book (checking mirrors in the right order and frequency, which you will never do afterwards for the rest of your life). Driving's great. And just think, if you could drive already, how much more choice you would have in a situation like this!

Good call, Oulabelle

Definitely. Why does my brain never tell me useful things like that?

I right second Olulabelle... bank the cash, build up the funds, then go crazy over the summer.

Where to go? Berlin, the city rocks and it's cheap as chips. Just spent a long weekend there myself and was deeply happy for most of the time.

If you're looking for cheaper than chips, then head for eastern europe on a cheap flight and then start on the trains. Slovakia, great. Romania, Bulgaria, fucked up but beautiful. Albania if you want a real adventure holiday. But remember, everybody over there is nuts. But in a good way.

Sorry to hear that about your job toksik.... but as you say it's probably for the best if they're evil!

Olulabelle seems on the money about not wasting your time now to miss out on summer, and it's going to be a scorcher by all accounts.

My advice - invest in a big bag of goodies, kick back and see what happens.

sorry to hear about that, Toksik.

I'd probably concur with oluabelle's advice. and then, if the summer's rubbish, grab a last min flight somewhere cool. if you're feeling adventurous, turn up at the airport with a bag and see what they've got.

eastern europe is indeed dirt cheap, how about southern europe/northern africa if things have calmed down a bit - turkey/morocco?

take a copious amount of halucinogens?

Y'see this is why I hate work, 'cos I can't do stuff like that on a regular.

This would be my choice. You don't even have to leave the house!

Toksik.. why am I not suprised they didnt keep you on?

Firstly- go to London. It's the place to go with their money.
Secondly- watch out for the ones about to shut down. Get a job there. Then reap the benifits.

I would offer condolences, but it sounds like a GOOD THING.

If I was you, I'd start a new life under the sea. Everyone should do that every once in a while.

Seriously, though, waiting until summer and then doing something ultra-cool sounds like a plan. (Unless you decide to go somewhere where the weather's totally different, or whatever.) As does going to London and getting pissed.
