Agreed. Discussing magickal workings in progress adds a whole lot of variables that previously did not exist. Making persons aware of a working in progress throws to some extent their consciousness in the mix. I'm even quite careful about talking about magick in general. Just recently, I broke my usual rule about not discussing my magickal views with possibly hostile individuals. I went to a book discussion at the local witchcraft shop to discuss a book that had clearly been written by a wiccan fundamentalist. His insistence that Wiccan laws be applied to all magickal practitioners had got my dander up. Always watch what you do when your dander is up. I was the only chaos mage in the bunch. It was interesting....... and on my part, rather stupid. You could just see the big pink chaos elephant in the middle of the room. I spent a good portion of the evening trying to convince some people,(I'm not really sure that I was successfull), that I'm not an incarnation of pure evil and need to be put down. Oh, in fairness, some people did choose to see my viewpoint. Just think if I'd told them about my workings! IMO, to discuss one's workings opens them up to the butterfly wings of the beliefs of others. Or, if they are unpleasant enough, the hammer.... The one thing that I got out of it was that I've become a bit lax in this era of open magick, and I'd better shut the hell back up. Magickal secrecy? Yes. |
