Writing sigils

Ive done several sigils over the past few months and I was wondering: do most of you put yourselves into a meditative state/ banish when you actually write the statement of intent and form the sigil, or just when you send it off?

I'm only a newbie myself but I only banish when I am sending them off

Writing them is a tortuous process for me, as I have a great deal of anxiety that I should not cause harm to any other living creature. This in turn makes forgetting the intent difficult.

The people on here offer excellent advice, so it shouldn't be long before you get more useful replies

I've just been an idiot and clicked on "moderate post"

I misunderstood the use and meaning of the word moderate and I was only attempting to edit my OWN response to the initial post

If I have inadvertantly done anything to the initial post I sincerely apologise. Just me misuderstanding what I have read

Sorry

It is only necessary to be in a meditative/altered/heightened state or banish when you are charging/sending them.

As for creating them in these states, I don't suppose it would make any difference. Might be a bit more difficult to draw.

Spooky, I was just about to ask about banishing after charging sigils when I saw this post.

What methods do you guys normally use for 'banishing' after doing a sigil? Is it really neccesary? What exactly is banishing anyway? And, what happens if you don't do a banishing?

Can someone post a quick "Banising 101" up here?

Thanks.

Banishing

basically setting out an area for you to work in.........you can think of it as a protective circle or just somewhere/place where your everyday conscious and your Magickal consciousness are seperated

I like the "Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram"

If I had time I would put it all down for you but if you do a Google search, I am sure you will find it easy enough

Chaos Magicians are divided. Some banish, some don't. I would suggest that you at least imagine a sphere of white light around your area of working before you charge your SIGIL.

Again, whether you believe that not to do so is letting you be open to attack from dark forces as you work or whether you are working from a purely psychological model, where you want to 'click' your mindset into a different chemical state, I think it can only help.

I had a bit of a problem performing the LBRP at first as I did not want to be affiliated with the God of the Old Testament. Whilst I have nothing against Christianity or Judaism as religions, the God of the old testament struck me as not quite what I imagined as an ideal.
Somebody told me that YHVH and the old Testament God were confused with each other.....the former being the name of the indescribable and the latter the name of a powerful deity but not the one behind the one so to speak

This made me happier and I use the LBRP without any concern now

I tend to think the process of crafting the sigil is even more important than the charging of it. Its there that the ties of magick are made, where the microcosm is forged in the image requested of the macrocosm. I mean, if the end product of your work doesn't speak to your soul as a symbol of Spooky Magick Power, its just not going to work that well. So yea, I think banishing before crafting is a good idea, as can meditative states be helpful. I treat the sigil creation process as a ritual of its own (granted, a sometimes completely spontaneous, brief, and non-sensicle one), and I think that helps a lot.
