I've been listening to Stuart Davis for quite a while now, and he still seems to be below the radar of even the most forward-thinking and musically aware folks I know of.
This post is here to change all that.
Stu is perhaps the most brilliant lyricist I've ever discoverd. His songs, which range from the explicitly twisted to the uncompromisingly compassionate, give you the feeling that somehow, somewhere, everything makes perfect sense. More than that, his music is simply sexy - raw with every human emotion conceivable.
Too many superlatives. You just have to hear it for yourself.
As an incentive for all of you to check his stuff out, I've put a few "best of" type samples of his online. Go here and listen to a couple songs. Since this isn't precisely legal, I'll be taking them down after the weekend, but in the meantime go grab them. If you like them and want to keep them, go to his website and give him money - he needs it being independent, largely self-produced, and now with a young daughter to support. (The files on my site are ogg-encoded - if you're ogg-impaired, there are some mp3's on his website, or you can just go download a player that supports Ogg Vorbis - links at vorbis.com.
Go! Listen! And see him live if you get the opportunity - the sight of the tall bald man swallowing his microphone at the end of Wizard is not one to miss. |
