So, the next question is: if a single US or EU citizen consumes the same as, say, a dozen Congolese citizens, if we assume that a Congolese citizen's life is valued in terms of the resources that are consumed by that citizen's existence, are a dozen Congolese deaths as valid as a single US citizen's death?
But presumably we are not talking *purely* about he conservation fo resources. There is some moral element.... that is, by consuming so many resources to such little effect, the US citizen deserved to die. Does that still apply if, rather than playing hockey, the US or EU citizen was fell off a roof while trying to fix their reception during The Matrix? How about if they were also reading Robert Anton Wilson at the time? |
