More resources for the rest of us

for every sappy news story I see about how some guy was killed in a car accident or some hocky players neck is broken I just can not help but smile and think 'good, more resources for the rest of us'

don't get me wrong, if those lives were in my hands I would do all I could to preserve them, I would go to great lengths to ensure their health, so on and so forth, but natural elimanation...

yep.

So, the next question is: if a single US or EU citizen consumes the same as, say, a dozen Congolese citizens, if we assume that a Congolese citizen's life is valued in terms of the resources that are consumed by that citizen's existence, are a dozen Congolese deaths as valid as a single US citizen's death?

But presumably we are not talking *purely* about he conservation fo resources. There is some moral element.... that is, by consuming so many resources to such little effect, the US citizen deserved to die. Does that still apply if, rather than playing hockey, the US or EU citizen was fell off a roof while trying to fix their reception during The Matrix? How about if they were also reading Robert Anton Wilson at the time?

Nope. Totally disagree with initial proposition. Though I might not, if I felt that I was already desperately scrabbling for survival resources.

But then I'd be unlikely to be posting on a bulletin board discussing this.

To broaden this a bit. Are there people who are less deserving of resources?

Many examples leap to mind but I'm thinking of friends who work in A&E who will leave, unless in life-threatening situation drug, people suffering from being recreational drug effects, till last. Many of them recreational drug users themselves.

Or, say, lifetime smokers/medical resources.

Before I could attempt to answer such a question, research would first have to be done.

How are the world's resources split between the countries, and further into cities, regions, and how disproportionate would the consumption between the differing classes be?

What is the proportion between the available ressources, numbers of people and death rates?

Just because someone dies, it doesn't necessarily mean that there are more ressources available.
