I disagree you get the best Hot Chocoalate in London in The Chocolate Society near to Sloane Square. It gets you high for about half an hour, it's so intense.

There's no settling this is there, we'll just have to visit them all.

Would make an interesting alternative to a pub crawl...a cafe crawl.

‘The chocolate crawl’...sounds like the kind of game the kids used to play on ‘Cheggers Plays Pop’. If you’ll forgive the suggestion, a Barbelith chocolate crawl should be conducted online, with a live update from each venue, and surreal commentary provided between the stages by our very own Kegboy.

Keggers plays Choc. You know you want it. It has all the ingredients for a classic Barbelith thread.

(Blame Olulabelle for the pun, by the way. It’s not one of mine)

"Hey, this sounds like an excuse for champagne cocktails, tulle skirts and red shoes.

Let's DRESS UP!!!!! "

I'm on for that. For sure. Though I'd probably go for men's suitings, I'm on a men's suitings kick atm.

And I'm voting for the Chocolate society as well. Although certainly think a survey is in order.

gb hits the big toun! How can this not have been proclaimed from the rooftops of Vauxhall to make sure I knew? We must mark this momentous State Visit with shenanigans. We do good shenanigans on occasion I seem to recall, through a fog of alcohol.

Don't listen to Misterpc: Don't ever take the tube

The tube is fab! Engage people in conversation, stare at the people opposite, practise your SerboCroat on the many New Britons using upo your oxygen. Just remember to stand on the Left on the escalators and make sure you jump on board before those disembarking get off, or the train will leave you behind. And, when it's busy, remember to stop at the bottom or the top of staircases and have a chat with someone. They'll thank you for it.

Or maybe you should do none of the above. Unless you want to experience the authentic Londoner in full disdain mode, standing on your breathless corpse as they crush you pitilessly underfoot.

Yes, choclolate and beer and plushies. The lattermost only available at the Princess Louise though. Mama Xoc will be in town too at that time. Will be hard to choose between fun and frolics or filial duty but, fuck it, my mother's not a prize winning gymnast. Not ginger either. How shit is that?

I'll have you know, my prize-winning self will be in the Invershnecky Courier tomorrow. Im that famous.

I think the Tube may be my london-downfall, now you mention it. Because Edinburgh, I can do. I get where all the bits are, and how they piece together. And maybe it is cause I can do the bus thing there. The only thing thats worried me about the tube before is, as Bill Bryson mentioned, because of the underground map being all squared off and simplified, you can think that you're travelling miles, but could have walked there in 30 seconds. That, and I remember lots of people looking at the "next train" board, and exclaiming "SEVEN MINUTES? For fuck sake..." I think it's not bad if there's a bus in the next 7 hours. Which right now, there isnt.

Is there any kind of bus map to be had?

Im so excited now- before it was big any scary, but now it's got everyone on my doorstep (with lots of offended backpackers, pulling faces back) and good hot chocolate. What more could a girl want?

Some bus maps.

It's better to take the tube everywhere. I don't begrudge giving out-of-towners directions but I do it everyday. London is the easiest place to walk around and get lost in the world.

And 7 minutes is asphyxiation in rush hour.

When you go to the Tate (which you absolutely must do), look out for a room with a video by Sebastian Diaz Morales. It's astonishing. Feels like being drugged, especially the electric guitar on the soundtrack. It's on the 5th floor I think, towards the end as you go around.

But everything there's great (except this one guy who has loads of paintings, some of which are just stupid - One is called Untitled - Dots or something like that, and that's all it is. Different coloured dots. What a joke. Still, it's surprisingly free from such nonsense), and unbelievably, the whole thing's free! Enjoy!

So. To drag this down from the highbrow...

when's the piss-up?

And where?

(Okay, my lowbrow credentials are totally ruined by the fact that I'm going to the theatre on Tuesday and the opera on Wednesday)

Thursday onwards is good for me. Anyone else?

15:05 / 14.03.04
It's still highbrow if you drink classy drinks. Like... um... cider.
Flyboy says Golden Lion on Kings Cross Road for the evening of the 16th, and Bear said the 16th for his birthday growl. Or do you need another special piss-up? Oh I see- theatre. Damn, will I have do get drunk again?

That reminds me. Must see Bombay Dreams.

Sod the Tate. Go to the Victoria and Albert. They’ve got more fab dresses from days gone by and suits of armour and ancient artefacts looted from all over than you’ve ever seen. It’s great.

I'm going to be stoney broke until the 17th so another date after the 16th would be good for me too... but I'm sure there will be others anyway.

I'll try to stick my nose in tomorrow at the Golden Lion - otherwsie see ou at some later point in the fortnight. There's bugger all to do in London really except go to the pub, so I imagine there will be other trips..

Can someone provide an address for the Golden Lion? So I can get a map, or directions would be cool...

It's on King's Cross Road - if you come out of Thameslink, turn right and walk for five minutes following the road round as it curves, you can't miss it.

Sod the Tate. Go to the Victoria and Albert.

Ooh! Yes!! And then you can walk round Kensington and stuff and look in all posh dress shops and go "How do people walk in those shoes?" and "Twenty squillion quid for a tshirt???" And polite, well-groomed young men let you into the shops to fondle soft leather waistcoats whose backs are made entirely out of sink chain... But the V&A is even better than that.

I'm excited. I'm also going in, um, about 5 hours. And I should be in bed. But I need to lateshift.

Thanks everybody. I haven't got there yet, but I feel so much cosier, knowing that there'll be someone to shout and scream for if I need it, and get pissed with anyway. Looking forward to seeing half of you. x

So now where is the next "meet Gingerbop night"? Not including the march, which I won't be at.
Perhaps even some drinks in Stokey. I'm going to be at the Defoe tonight because they are too low key to bother much with St.P Day. If anyone's around, shout.

God, I was drunk last night. Fell asleep on the cunting central line and woke up in f*ckin' Debden! DEBDEN!! 5 and a half pints drunk quickly on an empty stomach = sleepy Illmatic in Essex. I hate myself.

I suggest doing a sigil.

waaaaah, I missed Brother Bear's birfday!! Sorry you old pintspiller, I've not been checking the board as much as I should. And yeah, like the Lily lady says, when's the next "meet Gingerbop night"? It's not awfully likely I'll make the march either...
