Hi there boywonder,

Don't know much about this myself, but there are threads on Goetia here and here which may help you. Good luck.

The reason that it is not worth it is that if you get into Goetia without the proper pre-work, and summon a powerful entity, you will be screwed. I've helped a number of people who rushed into Goetia too quickly, and wound up getting severely messed up. There is nothing wrong with getting into Goetia. There is something wrong with rushing into Goetia. Also, it's important to recognize that Goetia and Wicca are two different magickal systems, and training in one does not necessaritly prepare you for work in another. If you want to practice Goetia, by all means go for it. But go for it with seriousness. Tske the time to go slowly and safely. Best wishes.

There is something wrong with rushing into Goetia.

Indeed, and there is certainly something wrong with the Goetia rushing into you. I started off magick with the Goetia, though, and it never did me any harm. No, really, ask my parole officer. Ahem, I think the closest thing to a serious response I have is - read DuQuette's My Life With the Spirits, then think about your motives very carefully and then maybe have a pop at it, if you still want to.

Why do you want to summon a Goetia demon?

Is it to accomplish a particular goal? If so, why do you think that summoning a Goetia demon is necessary to accomplish that goal?

Is it out of curiosity? If so, do you think that satisfying your curiosity is worth any possible risks?

If you're still interested, I'd suggest getting Aleister Crowley's Illustrated Goetia, with commentary by the ubiquitous Lon Milo Duquette. It should guide you through the basics.

Because magicians tend to be oblique and talk in metaphors, I'll be blunt. First, your chance of getting any sort of result probably will depend upon your imagination, will, and visualization skills. You may succeed. You may not.

Next, you're (almost certainly) not going to have a demon appear to you in a puff of smoke. Chances are that even if the ritual works all you'll get is a "feeling" that there's something in the room with you. That's what you'll talk to and bargain with.

Some say that summoning Goetia demons is simply getting in touch with a part of your unconscious. Some say it involves objective entities. In any case, working with Goetia demons sometimes causes obsessive thoughts and feelings of paranoia. You also might start experiencing unpleasant coincidences. On the other hand, you might have wonderful success, or have nothing happen at all. Just be aware of the risks.

That Waite book is a hunk of shit cobbled together from a bunch of different medieval grimoires, and will likely just confuse the hell right out of you and into the open!

....my hat and scepter now tossed into the ring:

i am not going to tell you '...oh please don't do it oh please....' -
and i am not going to tell you to seek counsel within the tomes of books
and writings that will bore the complete shit out of you because even the greatest magiis are flawed with ramblings into nowhere.....

however: i will simply tell you that the decision to summon any entity and any spirit and any daemon lies only within your will and your intent:

therefore boywonder: if you want to summon a goetia daemong: then by all means use your own wit and your own brains and stop attempting to gain approval from others about your desire to deal and bargain with a goetian daemon:

there are no 'fast and hard' rule to summoning a representative of the invisible realms: you are either going to get yourself within yourself and create a system for calling forth a goetian daemon or you are going to just bounce about seeking approval from others....

because at the end of the ritual: and at the beginning of any initiation -- no one other than yourself will cross that threshold.

..thank you.

While summoning always deserves some caution, it should be noted that working with the Goetia is prescribed by many OTO lodges for those who have yet to attain conversation with their HGA. In other words, you should be careful and have a fairly good background in magickal arcana and esoteric psychology, but it's not something that's reserved only for adepts.

If, OTOH, you have very little experience in magick or altered states of consciousness, then stay the hell away from the Goetia until you've gained some experience. I would start working with simple elemental & Atu invocations, try some planetary magick, then work your way up to the Goetia.

Whatever you do, if you summon, make sure you banish afterwards.

As my name suggets, I am not qualified to offer advice but I would advise caution

I think that you have been given some wonderful advice on here

Even if the Demon is only a psychological construct, with no objective reality WHY OH WHY would you want to access that part of your psyche.

Contact Hermes and make yourself more witty.......

I'm not being flippant and your best interests are my concern

Why seek out the negative, we all need more joy in our lives so contact somebody or something that will enhance your life, rather than something that will scare the living shit out of you

Not my business but I do wish you well and I hope you have pleasant experiences in your learnings

Summoning Deamons is not the hard part, all you need is a true intent, unfortuantly it's getting them to go away again that tends be the hard part as, by the point that you want them gone(if you are capable) they've been living off your life force and eating holes in your psyche long enought to have changed your essence and altered the structures of your mind. Think long and hard, consider all this advice, then blow it off saying "what the F**k do they know anyway..."

Couple of links that might be useful:
Goetia Reports
Unleashing the Furies

- both give 1st-person accounts of working with Goetic spirits.

You're trolling, right? Tell me you're trolling. Please. Really.

I've never summoned a Goetic demon, because I'm a bit lairy of what the result might be. And I've been doing this for nigh-on eight years now.

Can you see the point I'm driving at here?
