None of the Above

I had an idea this morning, and wondered if anyone had ever tried it before? Rather than wait for the government to introduce a "None of the Above" vote, how about setting up a "None of the above" party? All candidates would have to swear that they are standing only as an outlet for those who think the rest of the candidates are rubbish, but who still want to vote. They would have to make sure that they if they won they would step down as soon as possible to force another vote in their constituency , and never take political office or make any promises. Whaddya reckon? Given the vast number of people who don't vote and might be attracted, it's unlinkely that any NOOA candidates would lose their deposits.

Isn't that what Martin Bell did?
I'd actually be happy to do that if someone could spot me the deposit.

I was going to try this in the last city election, but didn't have the time... except that if I won, the people in the ward would be choosing to have no political representative, and my politician's salary would go to charity...

I think that if someone put enough money into it, it would settle the question of why people aren't voting. I personally don't think it would be successful today. At least not in my region of the U.S.

I'd vote for that if someone else did all of the getting a new party on ballots, which is very hard work.

Maybe I'll just vote for myself.
