As GL says, you're not asking for much are you?
If you want a simple but useful general intro to Pre-Columbian cultures(which I'm rather presuming is what you want, ie from the cultures of S/C.America pre-columbus' arrival. there's also of course, a lot of more modern stuff).
Most pre-col cultures have very iconographic religions, so art/architecture tell you loads about religious practice/cosmology etc) try the Thames and Hudson World of Art titles: Art of the Andes and The Art of MesoAmerica. Dead easy reading, and with useful bibliogs.
These are obviously not so much practical as historical/cultural background, but perhaps a good place to start? |
