Just wondering if anything needs "checking". I noticed that the board is being very very slow to load up and I have broadband so I think there might be a glitch somewhere. I know next to nothing and less about this sort of thing but I recall the same thing was happening a few weeks back just before the whole lot disappeared.

I was actually gonna start a thread on this asking what could be done..

The board has been so slow in recent days that most of the time I haven't been able to read more than one or two threads before it freezes up completely.. this is something like my third attempt this morning and the first time I've got anywhere..

Could this be something to do with the backlog of undeleted threads and private messages, of which there must be millions by now (I hope so because then we can just delete some of them), or is that thinking along completely the wrong lines?

That sounds good Rizla, maybe getting rid of some of the private messages would be equivalent to de-fragging the 'lith.

Anyway, just posted to say that i got this a few minutes ago :

Once again that message simply means that so many people are using the server (not just barbelith users because the server's not exclusive to this message board) that it's not letting us read the board. If you refresh the page than 6 times out of 10 whatever you're trying to read will come up but probably very slowly.

So... if the server is used by loads of other sites/people, deleting PMs wouldnt make a huge difference? Not that Im attached to them or anything...
But would it really speed it up at all?

Ah well- the good lady wife's out drinking with the bridesmaids, while I track down friends of mine who lunched out on us yesterday and... well, not actually "kill" them, as such... more "have a pint with them" sort of thing.

Anyways, back on-topic, it's running MUCH faster now. Posting was always the big bugbear- it'd be "hit POST REPLY, have a fag, go for a piss, then come back". No longer. Me like.
